They're scared the '08 Viper will demolish their precious Z06 that they so blatently brown-nose.

First they have to produce the darn thing and get it to the automotive press.

I don't think there is any question, however, that performance wise the VIPER WILL SMOKE the Zo6, but I bet the spoiled old baby boomer writers with their traction controlled, hybrid lovin, politically correct, brainwashed, indoctrinated melons will say something like "Well, when it comes to the Viper if you want a long term relationship, you better look elswhere" which is exactly what they said in Car and Driver when they tested the Viper Coupe, Zo6 and Mustang 500.

In other words, the lamestream automotive press may show that the 08 600hp Viper's true perfromance is better, but those boneheads, who couldn't write thier way to the end of a page without GPS NAV, will definatley say the Vette is "friendlier".

To hell with the magazine tests. Sorry for the rant, but if I want something friendly, I'll buy a friggin dog.

You watch...they will say that the Vette is better. I can hear them call the Viper "ham handed" or some words to that level. The added horsepower "cannot be used" as the car does not "hook up" or some other nonsensical comment.

They will end the article with the Z06 being the "best bang for the buck", although the Viper wins the objective tests.

GM spends a lot more on advertising -- the life blood of those magazines -- bias is inevitable ... for example, the current Viper will outperform and outclass the coming '09 Camaro in every respect (on every measure), but watch, the same media that sneers at the Viper, will glow over that car ...

... oh, but what about price? the Viper has always been a limited-production bargin compared to cars that cost over twice as much, but watch the media rave over the merits of those $150K+ cars ...

Exactly. What REAL car man/woman buys a car based on a magazines opinion? None that I know of.
I agree but unfortunately not everyone is a REAL enthusiast. There are alot who bought the new Z06 because of the ranting and raving that was posted in the Mag rags. We have to face it, alot of people believe what they read in these rags and won't take the time to actually go see a Viper in person. They will read how the Z06 is more user friendly and how it does this and that without ever venturing to find out for themselves. What we also have to realize is that there are those with more money than sense and just want to have the best or most HP, never even thinking about using the car for anything other than a grocery getter. Shoot, there was one guy on CF who bought one for his wife and then had the nerve to get on there asking if anyone knew how to teach her how to drive an MN6. He was even trying to sell it afterwards. His wife had heard and read all of the stuff about the new Z06 and wanted one. Then she ended up not even able to drive it. Sorry to detract but I was just showing how some will buy based on what they read.

I've dealt with media companies directly... they most certainly bend to their advertiser's whining. Remember, the Z06's were out to the presses before they were in full production... that's why so many people cried "Ringer" when the numbers first started coming in.

That said, I think the real reason there is no comparisons yet is that DC is still waiting on the remaining 06 stock to be sold first. Just look at our boy Bat here... he finally gave in and bought another 06. If the 08 press was in full swing, I'd bet he would have held out.

When the '08 hits the showrooms, the "06 will be hard for the stocking dealers to sell. Especially with a low production, slower selling car like the Viper.

We should be able to get some indication of how the numbers will look....are there any Current Gen 3 owners w/ 600 hp (dynoed) and stickier tires that have run an official 0-60 and 1/4 mile times? I know this says nothing of road race performance, but its a start.

3 mags have already tested them. The articles should be out soon. Lets just say the Viper nation will be very happy.

I can't wait to see the sh*t storm that creates over on the corvette forums :smirk: . Should make for some entertaining posts. I can already hear the whining... "just wait till the Blue Devil comes out!!". Imagine how dissapointed they'll be when they find out that the everage Vette owner has virtually no chance of ever owning one.

It will be just like the new Mustang GT500KR that is soon to be released. All the dealers will have them up on EBAY for $30,000 over MSRP. It is still difficult to find a Z06 at sticker. Most dealers are still gouging the customers. Then again, I wonder how painful the purchase of the "08 Viper will be??

Wow, don't get this hostility since I have a Viper & C6 Z06.
Both Phenomenal cars IMHO.
As long as they're not Euro Trash :D
(Sub Lime smiley ..gotta love it :D :D :D )
...I'm happy w/ My current 1005 HP
both cars provide :usa:

Vast majority of buyers.... of either cars would get
schooled by semi-pro driver in a 300hp car

If anything I hope to be lucky enough to upgrade to
1250HP from the BD Vette & 08 Viper ;)

PS- Viva Plum Crazy too !!!!!

The Whining will be unbelievable. The Z got crushed by the 08 Viper. Theres also a Rumour that in one of the Mag tests the 08 Viper Trapped 130MPH in the Quarter. I believe in the right hands a Stock 08 Viper on stock tires will run high 10's, something the Z has never done. A stock 599 GTB F1 Ferrari was just tested in a magazine and it ran 3.2Seconds 0-60 and 11.2 in the quarter at 129.3MPH so if the Viper trapped 130.............................

I think that is what I want to know the most. I want to see if Dodge keeps it in close range of what the cars are now. Watch the MSRP comes out to $99,900 like the old style GT3s. Still under $100K! ;)

We will see if they even end up making the BD vette. I here its ready to go and then read that in autoblog Lutz said they are putting a pause on all RWD vehicles. With the new emmissions and gas guzzler crap, GM has other issues to worry about to get out of the hole. I wouldnt be suprised if some of this political crap haults the horsepower wars.
