GEN 1 Roe S/C belt Squeal

How the heck do I stop it. 1st guy to figure it out gets
$5000. Dollhairs.

Roe S/C blower on GEN I
Crazy belt Squeal.
New power steering pump/pulley.
new Idler/tensioner pulley.
Alignment is good and square 4 sure.
Tried replacing S/C supplied belt with Napa auto parts belt.
Nothing.

Viper bros. Any Ideas? Just a friggin belt squeal!

Not the belt, one of three things, bearing on remaining older pulley or blower shaft bearing or crank pin.
1. Age of blower? Bought new or used? Level of lube in blower? Ever run dry/low?
2. Bearings on pulley..You replaced two of them. temp lub centers of the remainders.
3. Did you pin the crank pulley, is the pin working out to the rear of the pulley (rubbing on front facing)?

lol, I'm VERY serious about this..... Grab some baby powder, go outside, open viper hood, start car, gently and slowly toss a little baby powder on the belt as it is rotating. Listen for the silence.

Now, you need my account to wire the money?

It really works! but may come back after a while. If it does come back, a new belt may be in order...

NEW BLOWER from Roe and Pinned Crank, as required.
Like the BABY powder idea, but cannot do..... won't have any left for my jewels.lol

The day I got my 94' I pulled up to a car show and everything was cool except for the minor squeak. An older gentleman came up to me and told me about the baby powder fix and I kinda laughed at first. When I left, the belt squeak got a little louder. So when I got home I puffed on some baby powder and by golly, that crap worked! Of course the squeak came back a few miles down the road. Me and my friend kept messing with it and we finally resorted to WD-40. Baby powder and WD-40 worked about the same, except the bably powder was a little easier to clean up. I messed with that for about a week, squirting oil on the pulleys and the belt, etc....

I inspected the original belt and it looked/felt somewhat ok.... Nonetheless, I went to Auto Zone and got a new belt and then I could see the difference. I also noticed some dryness and tiny cracks in the squeaky belt, since I could compare the two side by side. Belt never squeaked again after the new belt!

I just picked up a new belt yesterday for ours for traveling. Good insurance. Very cheap for the Bando belt -- $20.

No, I went to the local bearing/drive belt place. They were a Bando distributor, but did have to order it. All the more reason to carry a spare when traveling.

Steve, do you remember the size/stock number?

Alignment was the problem.
One pulley was just out slightly pulling the belt on 1 rid out of alignment.
Gen2 is different and no problem compared to Gen1's.
