Oh that looks wicked, when the Nos vents in front of the screen :headbang:

I know very little of how Nos works and what it does to an engine?

Do you have to do anything to the engine like changing the pistons to forged ones?
How easy is it to install a kit, or is this something that should be done by so called professionals?
Whats the costings compared to a Roe Supercharger?
Thanks Mark.

very simple to do. i did mine over a winter, here and there. i took my time and made sure everything was nice. it takes a day to do roughly. you just need all the good stuff to do it right. bottle heaters are a must IMO

cost is about $1200-1500 id guess. plus a few dyno runs to make sure the tune is right. same goes for SC.

i personally wouldnt run nitrous on non forged cars though, some do it though

Hey Plum, are bottle heater's still used very much? I was looking a N2O kit a while back and it seems like a lot of people are using the NANO kits instead of a heater now. They're pretty cheap, but I guess you have to deal with having different bottle to run out which could be a PITA.

they got popular after i got out of nitrous. i dont have any experience with them. the heaters were easy, i had mine set to turn on soon as the system was armed (which was all the time) and maintain a constant pressure in the bottles

I'm using a pressure regulated heater as well. I asked Nitro Dave a couple weeks back about the NANA system and he said it was a good system as long as you don't have extreme heat like here in TX. I have also heard that the NANO system is pretty difficult to tune, which is why I went with a heater. Keep in mind however, I have no first hand experience with the NANO system.

I think after everything was done, I was around $3k.

The kit is one thing (I got the Nitro Dave Plate Kit w/ 15lb bottle... I can post up pics of my setup later if you guys want) but you will also pay some good money on all the accessories

Off the top of my head I bought:

Bottle Heater
Remote Bottle Opener
NOS Mini Progressive Controller (window switch)
Fuel Pressure Safety Switch
Nitrous Filter (I believe this one is optional)
Dual Purge
Ash Tray Switch panel from Nitrous Outlet
Custom ramp/ subwoofer box to mount my bottle in my trunk
Dyno Tune digital nitrous gauge (Line Pressure)
Nitrous Bottle Gauge (Bottle Pressure)

On top of that, I also had the kit professionally installed and dyno tuned to be on the safe side.

Damn, that is a big jump in TQ...

I'm with Plum, I don't have the luck to run nitrous on my non-forged GTS.

I'm interested in getting your impressions of it on the street.

Where could I find out what internals my engine has? Pardon the stupid question but what is meant by the cream puff comment about the GTS? I have an 02 GTS red with silver stripes. I'm very interested in this setup but also now curious about my motors internals. Thanks for help with my questions. Jeff

If you're still stock, you have cream-puff. Anything after 1999 doesn't have the forged internals form the factory.

That's about the price I was running into in my head by the time I added all of the accessories and "fail-safes" that I wanted to have in the system. By the time I started getting up to those prices, I kind of talked myself out of it. Between the cost and losing that much of my trunk, I might as well look at a Paxton for a little more.

I know you could just buy the kit and hook it up for a lot less, but if something goes wrong without the back-ups (window switch, fuel pressure shut-off, etc), a new motor is whole lot more expensive.

Yep, unfortunately I think I ended up paying more for the accessories than the actual kit itself :(

on the internals on the pre 99, are just the pistons forged, or the crank and rods also? are the gen 3 forged? Thanks

All Gen 2 vipers (pre and post '99) have forged crankshafts and connecting rods. It's probably more accurate to differentiate the '99 and earlier cars as having "forged pistons" and not "forged internals". Not certain about the Gen 3, but I believe they are also creampuffs like the '00+ Gen 2 cars (forged crank, forged rods, Hypereutectic cast pistons).

You had NA: 434 Hp/ 484 Tq (to the wheels?)with JUST these mods?:

*Custom Magnaflow exhaust
*Smooth Tubes/ K&N Filters
*SCT Tune (Dyno Tuned)

Why does that seem high to me?

How much did your Dyno Tune get you? ---

Shouldn't seem high. Most people pick up around 150whp/200tq on a 150 shot.

Car originally dyno'd around 405 with a mail order roe tune. The shop dyno tuned the car and pick up another 30 hp.

IIRC I was around 441hp on my NA tune and 431 on my n20 tune.

What type of A/F ratios are you getting?

I just had my car dyno'd with the same mods as your old setup and I only got 425hp/460tq ... I guess the little extra torque and hp you have is from a great tune!!! :)

What size wheels/tires are you running. My 20's may be robbing me a bit too actually now that I think of it.

Did your shop have a problem getting the SCT base tune ... or did they use the ROE tune as a base? The shop I was at this morning said they have access to ALL the SCT base tunes, but it wouldnt let them into the VIPER tunes. Something about the "dongle" ? ---

Its probably my wheels and the 3.73's robbing me of some power.

Thanks for the help :) ---
