I was going to go for one also, and then came to my sences and talked myself out of a $50,000 pickup truck that will be worth only about $35,000 after a year.Remember it's still only a pickup truck.

Not here. 50k is a little out of my league for a pick-up truck. Plus the required trips, costs of shipping, etc. seem a bit much.

But the biggest reason is I would have to park it outside as I do not believe it would fit in the garage. I can't see parking a 50k vehicle outside in Michigan weather, which would probably make the value drop as 8AVETTE indicated above.

Beside PR/Marketing, I just don't get it.
A Pick-up with 500hp,being a viper engine or not,is still a truck.
Won't handle, brake or accelerate like a sport car nor will it tow like a real truck.
So what the point?
You can't afford a real Viper so you buy the engine?
You don't need a real truck but like the macho/look-at-me image that it project? (That apply to the H2 also).
You have more $ than brain and always need the latest fad/fashion?

At the very least Dodge should be covering all event fees and trucking back to the homes of the winners. You would in my mind be a few cards short of a full deck to spend $50k plus destination charges to Datona, then pay for all your own race tickets hotel and all the other traveling charges involved just to drive your new $50,000 plus truck around the track to promote Dodge at your expense. HUM,GREAT MARKETING PLAN DODGE.

I can just see my self now.
Winning the chance to spend at least $55k to promote Dodge on a overpowered 2 seat none 4X4 none extended or crew cab none automatic trans and none work truck.AT 5.4 sec 0 to 60 its only fast for a TRUCK. I would be board after a day or two and than take a loss just to get rid of it. Sorry guys if you disagree but I just dont get it.If you win and your happy about it than I will be happy for you. Good luck.

8AVETTE,

At only 50 units, these trucks are going to be hugely collectible, not to mention, fun at the track. If Jay Leno wants mine he's gonna have to pony up some serious cash. :)

Only 50 Blue units, there will be plenty more SRT/Trucks.
look at my 02 Yellow ACR 1 of 26 yellow/black strip ACR's, and the 02 red final editions 1 of 360, there not worth any more than a regular GTS. it's still just a 20k truck with a 12k Viper motor. $32k is about right don't ya think?
FUN AT THE TRACK SHOULD BE ON DODGES DIME.

For the extra $5,000 over a non-VCA SRT10 RAM, what else (beyond the great color combo & the VCA floor mats) does this truck have that'll make it unique?

Some Clarifications:

Dodge IS paying for your entrance and entertainment at Daytona... AND Viper HQ has assembled two plans to help you with lodging and transportation. The only REAL expense is traveling to the track .... and the $50K for this awesome VCA edition truck!

I must have mist that.I read that there are 2 packages, 1. $1100 hotel and transportation to and from the track. 2. $300 for what? Dodge gets $2,500.000 is sales and the so called winners are overcharged and have to pay there way.
sounds good to me, NOT.

I have owned Vipers since 1994 (owning 8 as of the SRT in the garage) and have had the opportunity to be at 5 of the VOI's. After the Orlando VOI, seeing the Viper Truck, I had one constructed using a crate engine. I enjoyed driving that truck on the street as much as any of Vipers. I am looking forward to owning one of the SRT RAM's as it is part of the Viper, made from the heart of the Viper and will drive the Ford & Chevy guys wild! SO I AM IN FOR THE BLUE/WHITE BEAST AND WILL BE HAPPY TO WIN OR PURCHASE THE TRUCK. . . you can rest assured it will be pampered just like it's kin.

THANKS TO EVERYONE AT DODGE FOR THE OPPORTUNITY!!

By the way the SRT-4 is also a great ride and for the money it's the best value to speed I have ever experienced! I am also looking forward to the 300C (Hemi). My 2 cents!

I'd love to have one. Just can't pull it off right now. I'll get a used one in a year or so. It's just a truck right? Here's the deal. These things (SRT Ram) are built to dominate the performance truck market. And they do. This truck should handle better than stock, not sure if it will. Straight line performance is where it shines. That's where Dodge got it's performance reputation. Guys will have them in the 11's before we know it. The day is coming when these trucks will spank some Vipers in the quarter. Should have a truck class at V-10 nats. Have quikest truck and quikest car bracket race for overall win.

8AVETTE,

When I say "fun at the track" I'm talking New England Dragway!

What can I say; 1 of 50 appeals to me. :)

Actually, the nice thing is it IS a pickup :) I have a Shelby Dakota, it is a blast to drive, very unique, and if I need to haul a refrigerator home from Sears.... no problem. I doubt they'll depreciate that fast. If you look at the only similar truck on the market, the Lightning, you'll see they hold their value fairly well.

It would be "perfect" if it was rated to tow. You'd think after the Dakota R/T towing fiasco they would not have made the same error..... oh well.... maybe West Coast Viper will do a computer reprogram to deal with the towing calibration...

"Performance Truck" as related to handling, acceleration and braking is an oxymoron.

A truck is designed to tow and carry weight and,for some to go off-road.
Due to this design, you get a high center of gravity, lot of "air resistance" and weight (including unsprung weight),which is EXACTLY all the opposite of the requirements for good handling, braking and acceleration.

For you guys that want/like this truck,I would like to understand why you will want/like something that can do nothing well ( handling like a sport car or towing/carrying weight/off-roading like a real truck)?

As for may be a day spanking the viper in the 1/4 mile, so what?
Big deal,I have a few cars and motorcycles
that can do that, but that doesn't make them as special than a Viper.

I think that the SRT10Ram buyers have the same buying reasons than 99.99% of the H2 buyers: the macho image and the exclusivity, latest fad/fashion factor.(as Rick said, 1 of 50 appeal to him)
Nothing wrong with that but using the the excuse of performance, "..I have enjoyed driving that truck on the street as much as any of Vipers." to "justify" it,doesn't ring true.( if you don't have more fun/pleasure driving a Viper than a truck, may be the viper is not the best vehicle for you.)

With the Dak R/T's the towing limit was due to the suspension not the drivetrain...

I'm interested in at least trying to get one free or see if I can get on the "list".

And, it makes absolutely no difference who wants one or why. Everyone gets their kicks the way they want. That's why restaurants have menus.

I believe the $50K is the sticker price. I imaging those purchasing the truck will negotiate a killer deal with their dealer. This will help with initial depreciation.
While most people do not believe that a new truck is a great investment, I do not know of another 500hp factory stock vehicle(car or truck) anywhere near that price. Where else can you get a 6 speed manual, factory lowered, limited production vehicle. I believe it will be the fastest production truck in the world. Think they will sell everyone they make. Knowing our group, I would not be supprised to see a supercharger offered by some of our Viper tuners.
Merry Christmas to all!

I guess it must be the pain meds for my right arm, but I didn't realize the $50k price was negotiable...duh...

Hmmmmmm, after just spending the weekend with MY favorite dealer, (see the MD/VA party thread) You guys who are interested in this truck should call YOUR favorite Viper dealer, you might find a better deal than you think!

A red one with my name on it was loaded onto a rail car today and will arrive 12/29. I'm still sending in for a chance on the VCA one. Is that just greedy?

Where is the scoop on how to get on the list for one of the 49? I thought that we would get something from Viper HQ.

Eric,

I'm looking forward to the arrival of my new Ram SRT-10.
I wish I had an opportunity to make mine Blue to match my Indy Ram, that would be pretty cool. Congratulations on the sale of your Viper truck. I spoke to John Garrett over the weekend and he was excited over your latest purchase.

Yes, the mailing left Viper HQ a few days ago, and LOTS of "entries" have been received already. If you haven't received your mailing, and would like to get rollin' today.... just click here:
