This is my first VOI I was had a few questions. It looks like most of the driving is in their cars. Is any of it in your own car? Do I need to buy a helmet for this event? What else do we need?? RT10 do I need hardtop?? Spare??

Thanks
Andy

You will be able to drive your car on the infield track at Texas Motor Speedway. You will need a helmet. They will have loaners available if you don't own one. You don't need much else, just make sure your fluids have recently been changed (oil, brake, etc) and tires are properly inflated.

Hey, Andy! Having driven to VOIs-5 and 7 and back, and after tracking and autocrossing at them, I have learned:

Ship Helmets Ahead and back home also - (they take up too much valuable Trunk space needed for VIPER Collectables!!)

Skip the Hardtop for your beautiful Red 2002 RT/10 - - none required to Track - but DO bring the folding Soft top! It Rained, really stormed, and even Hurricaned at BOTH of the Invitationals we attended!!

Since you are in Houston, and if your tires are good, I would advise no spare or jack... you could pack 2 large cans of Fix-A-Flat instead. Besides, if you totally blow a tire, then I will lend you the spare from our RT! - Jim

Hey ajt, I just opened the packet with all the details and schedule , maps etc. for the voi.. It has a blurb on things to bring, attire etc. You should get this today too. P.S. I have not heard from Albert if the houston club is convoying up there or not.

I would bring a helmet, unless putting on some shmo's helmet doesn't bother you.

As far as driving your own car? Track time is not worth it. They keep your speed down to much. You might as well use thier cars and beat the sh*t out of those. But then, I'm not going anyway so don't listen to me.

No question it's generally a fun event.

AJT--- I use simpson as do many other competitors. Arai is very good too. For safety, full face is a must and make sure you get the right fit. A helmet that is too loose is worthless. Dont buy a motorcycle helmet either. Try calling shops in houston so you can try some on and get the right fit. A quality legal scca or fia approved helmet will start at approx. 300.00 and up. Many are in the 400-600 range and higher but very worth it.
