Hello

As my Viper is an Export unit and I heard the PCM was specially written for export I decided to change to the original one. I did it yesterday and the result is pleasing so far. The idle is smooth and it responses to the throttle change much faster. I recommend every "Export" Viper to change.
Just one result is new to me. You know the upward arrow in Yellow? Yeah, the Skip Shift sign which tells you to change to the 4.th gear. Does somebody knows why this is good for? Is it really needed? I plan to disable the cable which is running to this unit, does somebody knows of any disadvantage?

Thanks for help.

Regards

the skip shift is a pain, it isnt needed, its supposed to be a fuel saving device, its locks out 2nd gear when in low revs

there are plenty of skip shift disable kits about

Welcome Bernhard!
All you need to do is rev up over 2000 rpm in 1.
That´s easy. You get used to it.

I switched out my 98 euro pcm to a 99 us one. I can feel a slight difference. I am pleased so far. At first my check engine light went on assuming from headers and exaust but went away after 100 miles. Skip shift does come on now, but not a big deal

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's (Skip shift) there in order for the viper to get better gas mileage and mandated by the auto industry (or something like that)

I just unplugged my cable connected to the tranny and put in a resistor. There's an illustrated how-to in the how-to section of this site.

Aha, ä Schwizer isch o hie! Ändlech verstaht öpper was i schriibe... ;)

Yes, changing PCM is a big improvement!
You can get a cheap skipshift disabler from www.summitracing.com ... it is the same as in the C5 Corvette.
It costs 39$ plus shipping and most important, summit delivers to our Country AND accepts our Mastercards without Problems.

If you dont have, dont forget to order a B&M Short Throw Shifter... this will be your next good improvement!

If I try to change from first to secong gear while the skip shift light is on, it makes a strange noise on the tranny. So I don't know if that skip shift will arrange that.

"strange noise"...?

"Skip shift" means that you have to go from 1st into 4th gear!

Either you rev up over 2000 rpm from 1. gear OR use the shipshift-disabler...

The skip shift blocks out 2nd below 1800 rpm. That arrow is the get going arrow. It means your not going fast enough. If you get hung up you can step on the gas or move the shifter to 4th,then immediately back to 2nd.NO need to let out the clutch going 1 to 4 to 2. GTS Bruce

I de Schwyz gits au Viperfahrer wo modifiziere tüend :D ... find i Cool
Translation:
I Switzerland there are as well Viper drivers which modifies their baby :D ... cool

I forgot to mention viperama - I already have a Mopar Short throw shifter and a 1 1/4 inch "Spurverbreiterung" all around.
I will remove the skip shift as the Viper is on the lift to add all my stuff again after the successful visit at the "Strassenverkehrsamt" (Named - Traffic Board in English I believe?!?). After my research on the Forum about the value of the resistor I do not know which to chose as the range goes from 2.2 kohms to 10 ohms - I try to measure by myself.
-Gerald- Yes, DC use this Skip shift to get a better acceptance by the auto industries because of gas gussling rules I found out.

Cant wait till my baby is on her feet again :2tu:

Cheers

F/%)*ng cool, is'n it?

I would like to install Spurverbreiterungen too, but i am to lazy... as usual for things that dont improove my dynonumbers. ;)
(just joking)

Another good improovement was the installation of a more accurate Oil Pressure Gauge... i will take Pictures soon and post them here.
