Viper vs. Ford GT

Last night, I was channel surfing and came across The Travel Channel. In this segment, a stock '03 SRT 10 was matched up against an '05 Ford GT in a drag race.

The Ford won 2 out of 3, but I was surprised at the times. On the first run, the Viper ran over 14 seconds. The fastest time was 12.4 by the Ford.

Has anyone else seen this video?

I think alot of folks on the board seen it. Why they let a guy who had never ran a quarter represent the Viper beats me... thats why they got the 14's

Don -- I currently have the show saved on TiVO. I also have the capability to downlaod the video from the TiVO box as an MPEG file and then burn to DVD. If someone will give me instructions on how to upload the video to the board I would be happy to do it.

Overall, pretty good coverage of the Viper with a fair amount of focus on CAAP and the VCA.

Well I only drag raced 1 time in my life and ran a 12.1 (stock)with horrible 60' times and I can tell you I raced a GT-40 on the street and we were even mid way through 3rd gear and then he walked me bad.That car is much much faster then ours no question about it.The only chance we have is a very bad GT-40 driver

Yea I agree my GT was way faster than my stock SRT was. It just gets traction and goes and the mid range and top end is awesome. My GT is now making 640rwhp and 619rwt with a pulley and tune. I think it would be close with my 704rwhp Viper.

Interesting! I was reading an article in my dentist office in "Driver". and it had both cars extremely even. I think the 0-60 times were like .2 for the GT. But the quarter had the viper @ 2/10 of a sec faster. Hmmmm. I'll have to go grab that magazine and re-read. I guess the writer was smoking crack? I know this is what it said because my buddy has a new GT and I was giving him crap about what the article said. Oh well, for the amount of $ he paid over me...it should have the ballz to put a few lengths between us.

It was a fun show to watch, and at least they were comparing the Viper to the Ford GT, as opposed to the Corvette. It was unfortunate to have a newbie driver in the Viper, but at least both drivers were poor. And the Viper guy did win one race. :laugh:

The best magazine time for the Ford GT is 11.3@131MPH which is a world faster than the Viper's 11.77@124MPH, but other tests have put the two cars much closer in performance.

It does go to show you that with these high performance cars, the driver's skill is even more important than a power advantage, and that they both look fantastic even setting still.

Did you notice that the FORD GT had problems after one time down the track!!!!!!!!!!!150$$$$$$$$$$$ and radiator problems,,,,water hose!!! Come on!!!Get some one who really knows how to drive a VIPER!!!!!!

Ive had 4 vipers, + still have 2 with lots of mods.
Just got my GT its alot qicker and faster stock!
Doing lots of mods in two weeks looking for 725 at rear
cant wait i still love my vipers.

Make that new modded Z06, against a probably bone stock Ford GT.

The Viper, Z06, and Ford GT are close enough in performance to have a good (or poor) driver make the difference from a standing start.
But it's less of an issue with a rolling start, so unless the Ford GT guy missed a shift, the Z06 probably has around 80HP+ over stock to walk away like that. :2tu:

Yes, i agree,You can sure tell the ones who have never driven a GT.Not dealing with stock with stock.Even if the ZO6 had some mods the guy in GT must have been picking his nose.
