guess I\'ll try a different forum

Never got an answer on the other...

I did an upgrade. I have an 'oo and now have '03 brakes on my front. What pads are you guys using for track, road courses and where to get and what are you spending? Are the stock pads good enough?

Thanks,

Andrew

I've never heard of any issues with the stock pads. I'm sure they make better track pads but not street/track pads.

The stock pads rock.. seriously. Wouldnt waste my time replacing them.. if you are running the 03 front caliper and pad, your going to love it on the track !!

Jon

PS. what did you do about the rear ? At least did the piston upgrade that Tom offers right ?

Andrew you might already know this, but just in case...

Track pads will bite harder, transfer better heat but by the same token take longer to heat up to operating temperature...

That being said, you may find yourself pulling out of your driveway, just to rear end the first car you run-into at the stopsign. Happened to me in my '94 supercharged Z28 when I was 18 years old!!!

Re: guess I\'ll try a different forum

Thanks guys. Sounds like I'll stay with stock pads. Reason I was asking is cause I hit on a great street-track pad for when I had the stock set up all around, but now different story.

Jon, to answer your question, I put my front on the rear and got the extra e-brake set up from Dave Cawthorne. I did Pocono in May. Brakes were great, I gues no reason to fix what aint broke.

Thanks,

Andrew

Lots of folks perfer other pads over stock for the track. I think Brakeman 3 pads, which are the only other pads I've tried, are quite a bit better for the track than stock. Others use the Comp Coupe pads. And there are now Brakeman 4 pads which are pure track pads, although I don't know anyone who has tried them. Here is a post on track pads:

Would have to disagree with a couple of folks as the 2003 brakes are unreal, but the problem with your car has not been solved , and that is airflow. The Gen II design does not allow enough air around the calipers so the brakes can still get hot on the track. I would recommend looking into a brake ducting system ( Henry Cone makes a nice one he copied off a Bob Woodhouse design and I may be biased but I think it is the best system out there for a Gen II ) and a strong recommendation for pads would be Brakeman IIIs --- one of the few racing pads that is linear and does not take a ton of heat to react , hence it can be run on the street with common sense.

Other questions:

1. Do you have stainless steel braided lines/
2. Have you upgraded your brake fluid and to what if you have.
3. Any mods to the rear calipers, rotors?

Sincerely,
Bill Pemberton
