Are Eibach springs really that bad?

I just picked up my 03 Viper this weekend and I love everything about the car except the ridiculous wheel gap. Are Eibach springs really that bad and dangerous? The car is supercharged so it does make a good bit of power so I don't want it to be dangerous when I get on it and I don't want to spend $3k+ on a set of coilovers so my option is either Eibach springs with possibly caps in the rear or the Vipair Coilovers that retain the factory shocks and have springs that are 500 front rate 800 rear rate.

Im putting KWs on mine and will sell you my Eibachs and shocks complete. Three of the four shocks have been replaced. I have them on my 03 Paxton car with no issues.

I have eibach springs and drag radials on my paxton car, no issues at all.

I keep hearing how its going to be bouncy and even maybe dangerous at high speeds, so no truth to that?

Im putting KWs on mine and will sell you my Eibachs and shocks complete. Three of the four shocks have been replaced. I have them on my 03 Paxton car with no issues.

How much would you like for the set?

Less bouncy than my stock springs were IMO, I am running stock spring caps though.

Are they more bouncy because they are progressive? I know the vipair coilovers use eibach race springs so they are linear.

Ive had eibach's on a half dozen cars and all with no problems except my GTS. Very bouncy, far more than stock. Im holding out for the coilovers that a few member's here are working on in the $1500 range. If they don't come through soon I'll bite the bullet and get KW's...

I have eibach's & caps on my gts I wouldn't consider it bouncy just a rough ride...I wouldn't really let it detour you, your not gonna do top speed runs on bumpy roads any way lol

Ive had springs and caps on 2 Gen 3's and after going with Motons on my current Gen 4 I will never go back to springs and caps again. I'll even pay $5500 for a new set if I have too and Im a tight butt. Yeah they are that incredible.

Anyone know the difference between having eibach springs and caps together versus just having eibach springs. There's a set for sale in the classifieds I've been looking at. But I emailed the guy 3 times since he posted them march 22nd. But he has not responded to me yet. Sorry to hijack the thread.

they are safe for cruise speeds, but will beat you to death cruiseing, drive hard and agressive and they work great and smooth but will kill you...(not funny) car does not handle correctly, this is just my opinion and not trying to detoure a sale for anyone...iv been all over the place with lowering a car. kw 2 are the safe way to go, motons are even better cause the ride is superb,but big bucks

The lowering caps bring it down an additional 1/2" or so...but make the stock shock operate that much further down in it's engineered range.

yeah I don't want to die. I am no pro racer but it would be a waste for me to just cruise in a car with a supercharger. What about the vipair coilovers with 500 spring rate 800 spring rate? They however still use the stock shocks

never used them,but all that stuff is a band aid, robbin peter to pay paul so to speak in my opinion,

I love how it looks but my car on springs&caps is just to low for nj very impractical almost unusable.... man this thread made me remember what an improvement it was going from being lowered on after market bolts to pfadt coil overs in my z06. . making me wanna get coils now for the viper.. damn

Well, since the stock Dynamic Suspension shocks are about $800 each with no springs, the KW V2 price seems a little more reasonable. ;) But you are right, quality shocks such as those for off-road by King Racing are half the price of Viper coil-overs, but that's the gotcha, as soon as you say "performance coil-overs" the price jumps up a lot, and it's not just a Viper tax. But, the low production volume for Vipers does tend to drive up the cost of aftermarket parts compared to those for mass-produced cars. They have to get their product development money back somehow!

just to give you guys some thought, the factory shock piston is the size of your pinki, the aftermarket kw and ect. others are the size of you thumb... the differance in the way the car drives and handles is night and day with kw shocks

Eibach springs and caps here. Lowered 1"-1.25"? did it for aesthetic reasons. looks better, seems to handle better, but I'm not a track rat either. Inexpensive mod for me.

I think you might be asking people how exactly they are using the setup they have installed. Driving to the mall and driving the track are likely two very different things.

I have thought about lowering mine but the real world usage scenarios are just too variable. How will it handle on the track? Will it clear that speed bump? Can I make it in and out of that driveway without tearing something up. Can I take a huge on track sudden change in elevation and keep it under control?

I assume alot of you know the following but im going to cover the basics for those that do not:


Picture driving a car on springs with no shocks.

The car hits a bump

The car bounces up and down up and down as the spring oscillates:bounce:

Perhaps I can put something in the middle of the spring to provide resistance to keep it from freely/uncontrollably moving up and down(oscillating) :think:

Ohhh. I see there is something that does just that. A shock absorber.

Shock to soft dosnt control the spring enough so there will still be some bounciness:dance:

Shock to firm and it could overpower the spring and make for a very harsh ride.:omg:

Shock just right and Goldilocks gets a comfortable ride.:yay:

Then why would anyone put a stiffer spring on a soft stock shock and complain about a bouncy ride? …Especially when our stock shocks are adjustable.

All you have to do is adjust your shock stiffer to better match the stiffer spring.
(sure its only one-way adjustable(rebound) but its alot better than nothing...)

Or you could spend 10x as much and purchase an aftermarket coilover setup that is fully adjustable(two-way: rebound&compression). But keep in mind you should know what you are doing to adjust it optimally for your driving preference.

Eibachs are a great addition for your viper. I wouldn't use them with lowering caps though. I have the springs on my car without the caps. I scrape on some speed bumps. Also be aware that the springs don't settle to final right height until you do some hard driving. I didn't get the lowered effect until an autocross event. So don't get an alignment right away.
