Would you trade a Demon 170 for a gen V SRT base?

I currently have a 2023 Dodge Demon 170 with ~1,500 miles, single owner, and it still has a 7-year transferable warranty. I’ve been offered a trade for a 2015 Viper (base/SRT) with ~22k miles and 3 owners. The Viper is extremely clean and well-kept, but it’s not a higher-spec car (not a GT or ACR).

From an enthusiast standpoint, I love the idea of owning a Viper. But from an investment/value perspective, I’m a bit torn given the mileage and ownership history compared to my Demon.

For those of you who have owned or followed the Gen V market:

  • Would you make this trade straight up (or even with cash on top)?
  • Do you think the Viper has stronger long-term appreciation potential than the Demon 170?
  • How much does the base model + 22k miles + 3 owners hurt value long-term?
Just trying to make a smart decision here and would really appreciate any honest opinions or experiences.

Thanks in advance.

No and no to the first two questions concerning this particular Viper.

The value of this Viper is a harder call...but remember 22,000 miles/ 3 owner Viper raises many questions. "Extremely clean" does not determine current mechanical condition or status of "electrical components, past driving conditions, or maintenance history. Also, 2015 SRT is not at top of collector market, and said market is a bit weak at present...with another 6-7% devaluation predicted by some sources.

Yes, I own several Vipers but I know very little about 2023 Demon 170's. But I am betting that more parts are available for a 2023 Demon 170 then there are parts available for Gen V Vipers...let alone factory support.

Believe me, others may not only disagree with my opinion, but they may very well have more helpful and insightful information.

Bottom line, do what suits YOU, your budget, and your plans.

Starting with both are great cars. Demon 170 prices have been slowly dropping, more and more of them are showing up at the big car auctions. Gen V Viper prices seem pretty well established. Having said all of that…your Demon is probably a 150K to 200K car with that mileage and assuming it is correspondingly clean. The Viper as you described is probably low 100K. All Gen V Vipers have been accelerating in price to various degrees pending type but that mileage would hold it back a little. The Demon’s have shown a wide range as noted, but it really depends on the sales venue. Final thought, as noted above in the previous post, 22K and 3 owners increases the chance that someone drove it hard in its life…it is a Viper after all. So mechanically it could start to show issues. Enjoy your Demon!!

There is a guy near me I met at a recent Viper gathering. He traded a Demon for a IV. Said the Demon was cool but the Viper is a legend and it is way more fun to drive and own. Said he never looked back and you could tell he meant it.

Find a comparable G5 in miles and quality , a G5 Viper is an American exotic never to be seen again. A dodge demon is just another dodge demon car. A quality G5 you will pay for but in the long run its worth it if you take care and respect it. Then get a quality G1 for your collection.

I have a D170 and a G5V. The D170 is a cool amazing machine. I got mine with Demon Red seats for better collector resale. Its fun to do some pulls on the freeway, but I don't plan to actually drag. D170 prices are dropping. For Vipers, I have a 96GTS, and a 13GTS, and they holding their values. Both my Vipers are fun for the highway pulls AND canyon carving. I tried to trade the D170 and a RedEye for a G5ACR and couldn't get any takers. Some day........
