Z06 is a compelling alternative to Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Maserati and Ford GT

I'd like to see DC: 1. Put defeatable traction control/active handling on the SRT10s. 2. Offer an ACR version of the new coupe with Comp Coupe oil pickup, and some other goodies from the CC. 3. Offer both Paxton SC (~700 hp) AND a twin-turbo intercooled (1000hp ++) factory "blue-devil" of...

Anyone else think the new Firepower will overthrow the Viper SRT?

Hmmm... I didn't think the Firepower was in production yet. Maybe the Crossfire? Anyway, the Firepower will probably be, if produced, a competitor for the Vette.

Z06 is a compelling alternative to Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Maserati and Ford GT

Some good points in BWright's post. HP is not cheap, but certainly, DC must have realized what was at stake with the new Coupe's entry? The 500 hp Z-06 number has been pretty well public knowledge for over a year. The MSRP was correctly projected by any number of folks to be under 70K. The...

thanks tom, Thanks Tom, THANKS TOM, for the BRAKES

The really neat thing about Tom's solution, and what sold me right away, is that the front-only Stoptech solution that sells for around 2K actually uses smaller pistons up there to match the cheesy 36 mm rear pistions. That's how they achieve balanced braking. Tom's solution builds up the...

    Best rear tires for street?

V700's are a great choice - 50 treadware, though, so don't expect to get more than 6K or so on them... V710's are Victoracer, IIRC, and have less grooving. Ecsta 712's are not in the same league and inferior to stock Pilot Sports. They don't belong on a Viper, imo.

    Viper windshield?

Resolution Not sure if this muddies the waters or what, but here goes: finally today, after getting back from a business trip, I contacted the auto-glass company, and they were ready to put the ws in. They had buffed a small scratch near the center of the ws, reducing it but not eliminating...

    Road&Track 1 mile test

My copy came today - very good article, with excellent graphics showing each car tested at 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1 mile time and speed. One of the better articles R and T has had lately. Congrats to JH!

Hey DC, the GTS just got its butt kicked at the "RING".

Re: Hey DC, the GTS just got its butt kicked at the I just read the whole MT article. Apparently, they spent a lot of time "dialing-in" the suspension, used a pro driver, of course, and this run was one of many that didn't earn such great marks. Also, the pix of the car about to nose out...

    SRT-10 "floaty" above 110 mph?

Re: SRT-10 \"floaty\" above 110 mph? There's a little "bump" or something that kind of unsettles suspension right through there. I usually apex at around 110-115 or so and then ease off to cruise down to turn one, whereas the hard core are hitting 130 or so and on the throttle pretty much to...

    Kumho ECSTA V700

I've been running the 17's on my 98 for over a year - they are wearing better than I expected (3K miles and two track weekends - tread is fine). I think they are the only way to go with my car (3.73 axle). I am very cautious in the rain, as they have very little grooving compared to the Pilot...

PRICES.. GTS's... will the SRTs drop below?

Re: PRICES.. GTS\'s... will the SRTs drop below? Looking at the numbers of Gen I and II that were manufactured, it's hard to escape the conclusion that they will be incredibly valuable in 10-15 years. SRT-10s are already in the fifties; but they will come up some in the future as well. If...

    Viper windshield?

Thanks, Randy, glad to hear all came out OK. Well, I went to the shop and after they cleaned up the new ws (it was a Mopar, OEM) they found a small scratch on it and didn't want to install it like that. They are going to try to "buff out" the scratch - honestly, I didn't think it looked that...

    Viper windshield?

I searched some more and found that some have used a "Safelite" windshield, which retails high and can be had for around 400 or so. Is that identical to our factory screen? Wish me luck today - hope they got the right one ordered (apparently RT and GTS are different).

    Viper windshield?

On the way to VIR for Viperdays, a GD gravel truck got in front (well, actually, I caught up with it) and I couldn't pass on the two lane blacktop, soo.... I kept back what I tho't was a good distance and, sure enough, about a half mile before he turned off, he passed over a bridge joint and a...

    Vipers vs ZO6 General Concerns

Not true! If you buy your Viper from Woodhouse, have them put the Paxton on, they will honor the factory warranty. I called them - this is what they told me. Try that with your 11:1 uber-Vette!

Enzo Ferrari and Me on Track,Lapping, Pacific Raceway

That's about what I thought. Well, it appeared to be at least partly wet that day, but if I were him, I'd have asked to be placed at the back of a group of cars, that way I could go a slower pace I'd be comfortable with and not have to give people point arounds. But, with the apparent lack of...

Enzo Ferrari and Me on Track,Lapping, Pacific Raceway

Nice video. What was up with the Enzo driver? Does he think since he spent 1 million on his car, he earns the right to "never get passed?" Missed most of his apexes, too.

    My first service with Dodge

The only local dealers to me don't even have a real viper tech. One dealer refuses to work on them, the other scared me so bad when I needed clutch work that I drove 300 miles each way to have a real tech do the work!

Repost: Anyone making vents to use fog holes as brake vents.

Yep, Henry C. confirmed this in person Saturday when I asked him about those fog lights. They just look like natural vents through to the front brakes, but they are, alas, a low pressure area, and that dog just don't hunt. Maybe I'll try the Porsche deflectors, and see if they help...

    6th gear

Sixth gear is an inducement to upgrade your rear diff to a higher number! On the highway, I'm usually in sixth above 60 mph with 3.73's. I get around 20 mpg on road trips. ;)
