Engine block coolant drain plug location?

They are sealed with a very agressive Locktite type compound. It will "snap" free with enough force at least in my experience of doing several. I used antiseize rather than locktite in the reinstall with no issues regarding leaks or loosening. Steel stock should work though I did grind down...

    Side sill repair

The cause of the corrosion on early GENII's is the sill insulation. It is metal lined only on the exhaust side. On the sill side, the 1996, 1997 and possibly 1998's GENII's have exposed fiber glued to the sill. This fiber absorbs water from car washing, (enters underneath the "hockey stick"...

I had it done and it did not help me at all. Wrote a post with data and pix a while back. Looks nice though.

Re: IN/KY VCA Dyno Day...10/7/06...REMINDER... We do have a video with sound Steve (A baited question perhaps....) As soon as I return from the far side of the earth, I will convert and post a link to. Agree completely always better with pictures.

    1998 GTS bad paint?

Akzo Nobel brand paint was used on all GEN 1 and II Vipers except early 1998 when PPG was used. It would suggest that the issue is PPG not heat or uncured glass. The fact that ASC went back to Akzo during the model year seems to further indicate a problem with PPG. Are the bubble cars...

    veto on the viper purchase

While an Arrow rebuild is certainly a very well built engine, I seriously doubt it would increase the value of a previously unmolested low mileage, well running, stock Viper. Even if it was completely transparent, (Same block VIN, heads and date codes, etc.) is the typical Viper Tech going to...

SILL HEAT/ ROE RACING SILL INSULATION

By surrounding the cat with whatever you can think of that forces the insulation back. I used a wavy steel screen like material to wrap the cat, (to provide a path for airflow) then surrounded that with Nexel Ceramic insulating cloth. I'm not freezing water on my sills now, but certainly...

Is it worth the extra few grand to get a 96 B/W over 97

Mike, While I look forward to your arrival and will be happy to buy your a beer (or 2) you've already picked up your part! Now where did you put it? Or did you leave it in Lake Charles? Ron

Has anyone used these vents ?

Fine for a modded car but if you have an aversion to cutting up your car you can get air in there from underneath. Use ram air deflected along the flex pipe route. Plenty of opening in the rear already for air exit. Also will need to space the internal insulation off the cats. Airflow olny...

SILL HEAT/ ROE RACING SILL INSULATION

Heat needs someplace to go. Insulation only delays the inevitable. Get airflow in the sills and around the cats and you'll solve your problem.

Is it worth the extra few grand to get a 96 B/W over 97

While obviously any Viper is special, doesn't the fact that 1996 GTS's sell at a premium over 1997's say it all?

Is it worth the extra few grand to get a 96 B/W over 97

Do a VIN check at a Dodge dealer. They can give you a service history. If you don't have issue at 15K miles, you most likely won't - All of my 1996 specific issues occurred before then. 1997's GTS's have their share of issues too..... BTW, 435.4 RWHP Dynojet dyno, SAE corrected, as...

    Question regarding cruise control install

The receiver can be mounted underneath the windshield cowl (outside) eliminating and "hole" issues if it's silicon'd to weatherize. In addition, if you silicone "feet" on it, any water that accumulates on the top of the cowl box will not rise high enough to reach the circuit board. I installed...

    Slop In Transmission?

Hi Tom, Hasn't happened to me, but I've read about many that say it's just a matter of time until the throttle cable pulls out of the firewall under hard acceleration. Not sure what gives way, or if it's a GENII issue only. Just know that if it happened to you that you'd have engineered an...

    Slop In Transmission?

Viper's have a significant amount of driveline slop as built. Normal. Is yours at the normal amount or not? Can't help you there. Nice idea Tom! How have you solved the throttle cable / firewall issue?

Patch or plug? Front tire has nail in it.

In a perfect world (and bank account) I'd replace any tire rather than repair, and to Fred's point depending on how new it was, I might have to replace both. Then if the tire is no longer manufactured, I'd need to replace all 4.... an expensive little nail. Since I don't run at >150 mph...

    '96 GTS rim question

Re: \'96 GTS rim question Given that your 1996 rims are cast, I'd suggest trading up to late 1997 or 1998 forged. Looks same or better (higher polish) and more durable. Straightening out a cast wheel would concern me.

Patch or plug? Front tire has nail in it.

I completely understand the concern, as I have the same.... But if you're so concerned, why not install a tire pressure monitoring system? $250 or so and will immediately alert you if any tire is over / under pressure or overheating. More likely something will puncture your tire without...

Patch or plug? Front tire has nail in it.

Had 2 "patch plugs" in my rear tires for almost 18K miles. Removed the tires a few months ago and they looked as installed. The best thing short of a new tire and the only one I'd trust on a Viper as they are "speed" rated. Tech Tire Repair's Web Page

two post lift vs four post

In my area, 2,500psi 4" concrete is fairly normal for garage floors. GTS weighs 3400lbs. This Scissor lift rated at 7,000lbs. At strucural failure, scissor hinges blow out. Minimum failure point is 3 x rating, or 21,000lbs. Hydraulic pop off safety valves prevent lifting beyond rating...

two post lift vs four post

I'd argue that most Scissor style lifts (including the Nussbaum I own) are equally adapt at trans removals as any other as they are completely clear between the widely set lift pads. One or two brands of scissors have torsion bar equalization (Mohawk I think) but it's rare. The torsion bar is...
