I could see using a newer one just for the sake of efficiency. Old automatics pretty well sucked when it came to transferring power effectively. It used to be that automatics sucked more power out of a drivetrain than manuals, but that gap has really closed over the years. I do agree that 8...
So I've had some recent experience in my car that made me think of this issue again. My car has had a very slight crunch going into gear from time to time and it's maybe even a little more noticeable for reverse. I know when I was putting the transmission back in the car after my engine...
The Viper is designed in such a way that it can be repaired somewhat more easily than a lot of other high performance cars. The frame was kept all steel for that reason. While I can understand any rebuild making some people uneasy, with the right shop doing the work I wouldn't necessarily...
I swear I remember seeing someone on this forum reproducing plaques of some variety in the past, but I can't for the life of me find the post. Not sure what all plaques they were offering either as there have been several different ones over the years for special editions.
I think the parts lists are still hiding around here somewhere, it's just tough to find the thread. I think the upgrade section just linked to the original thread anyway. That being said, Roe Racing has them posted in their downloads section (https://roeracing.com/downloads/). I saved them...
I could have sworn I remember seeing someone post on the forum in the past that they could make replacements for some variety of badges like these, but for the life of me I can't recall where it was posted.
The biggest gen 3 issues tend to be the power steering line where it exits the pump and the oil cooler lines. The power steering line tends to fail the quick connect fitting at the pump over time and the oil cooler lines just like to weep at the crimps. Both are fairly easy to fix though, so I...
Do you have stock engine mounts? I've typically just put a bottle jack under the pan when mine was going to sit for any time without the transmission, but if you had the car on dollies to roll around I suppose that doesn't work very well. I have the aftermarket Woodhouse poly mounts as well...
Yep, I would look at the stalk as well. I had a similar problem, but mine would turn on the fog lights and strangely the A/C compressor light on the HVAC control module under the radio. I took mine apart because I'm just like that, lol. Turns out there is a little post inside it that pushes...
I think one of the reasons the service manual states that you shouldn't replace ball joints but rather the whole arm is because they use a special gasket to help prevent galvanic corrosion. They are steel ball joints and aluminum control arms after all, so the two don't entirely get along on...
Do you have any idea how long it has been since any engine changes? I know on my gen 3 at least the engine actually learns the idle position over time. I did a fresh rebuild with an updated cam and the first several drives it would die at stops until the computer learns the IAC position it...
Valve noise does tend to be pretty common with these cars, but always hard to tell without hearing it in person. Fuel injectors also make a ticking noise as they are basically just little solenoids, and the open hood vents on a Viper mean a lot of engine noise makes it out of the engine bay...
I'm debating tackling a similar fix one of these days. I put the Kicker shallow mount woofer in my stock box and it sounds okay, but it seems overdriven even at fairly low volumes. Thinking I need to tighten up some mounting or tubes or something to see if I can get a cleaner sound out of it...
Kind of looks handmade to me, but hard to say without seeing it in person. Wonder if someone just bought the mufflers and welded them on to the stock pipes. Still doesn't answer the question I suppose.
I didn't think reverse was synchronized, but I might be wrong on that. Does it have any issues or noticeable "crunch" going into any other gear? Wondering if maybe you have a little air in your clutch hydraulic line so you aren't getting quite enough throw out of the slave? On the forward...
Regarding the power steering hose, I think there is a "best of both worlds" answer there. I had that problem on my 04 as well and originally bought the aftermarket kit to convert to the AN style fittings. Long story short, I think they sent me the kit for the Viper truck and not for the car...
I think someone on the Facebook page recently posted a huge set of pictures of parts for sale. I was pretty sure I remembered seeing one of those panels in there. Link to the main profile page here: https://www.facebook.com/Impala.54321/
Those do seem like a pretty interesting drop in option. Kind of what I was hoping might exist, and I think there might be just enough room in the tips for them. If they aren't too much I might pick up a pair just to try them out. The ARH setup is waaaay expensive, so that's certainly off the...
Not sure you're going to find stock decals in beige at least. You could also do silver. Would definitely stand out more, so depends if that's what you're going for or not. There are actually a few different silver colors the decals came in though. I think there was more of a stain finish one...
I've have to think about it. The other thing I found out the other day (well, I guess I already knew, I just didn't really think about it that hard) is that if I just drive on the highway in 5th instead of 6th it's actually not bad at all. Cruising at 70-75 in 6th is what really does my ears...
Oh yeah, the censoring on this gets me every time. I think you might be able to disable it somewhere, but I've never looked around in the settings that hard.
Interesting. Figured it must be some kind of remote screen. Pretty neat though. I was thinking about something like this in my old 67 Dart for a while as I run it off a Megasquirt and was trying to find radios that could run the tuning software. Have since just installed a Raspberry Pi, but...
Lol, this is too true. I joke now that the only thing louder than my exhaust is my imagination. Every little tick or rattle has me second guessing things and wondering if something is going to **** up. Once I get a few oil changes and oil reports I'll hopefully be able to be more at ease again.
