Agreed! :2tu: ... but if I could make one more small request to Dodge: Please offer this ACR with a 3.33 rear gear option (in addition to the 3.07) ... with the higher redline on the 8.4L, this ACR with a 3.33 gear would beat the doors off of ANY Chebby ... and then please send an ACR with a...

    Official ACR info

I'm glad to read that the gains in lower track times are said to be "measured in full seconds, not tenths.... Lateral acceleration is 1.5g." I guess they kept off the Mopar 'race' exhaust stuff becuase they wanted to keep it street legal ... It doesn't necessarily say that HP is exactly the...

Why 3.07 gears in the Viper

Got it. And the shorter track tires makes a good point about the effective track gearing. But, in the context of the street (and taller street tires), I'd guess that Dodge would have posted better magazine comparison numbers (0-60, 1/4 mile, etc.) with 3.33s ... and I'd also say that such a...

    Official ACR info

You have a point ... especially, as I recall, since the Comp Coupe is still NOT offered with the 600HP 8.4L engine (still only available with the prior 8.3L), correct? If that's the case, then this proposed 'ACR' might become the fastest track Viper of all ... ... if this is all true, then I...

    Official ACR info

I hope Autoweek is wrong and that it also has some of the Mopar engine/HP upgrades. The reduced weight, stabilizer bar, wing & splitter and tires will reduce lap times somewhat, but they won't help in the 1/4 mile magazine comparisons ...

Speaking of SEMA: Any news on a 2009 ACR?

You are mistaken sir. The San Antonio, TX International Auto Show starts this weekend. It will surely be full of new introductions and news ... In fact, I think it was just last year that we had the PT Cruiser concept on display ... :rolaugh:

Still looking for that Autoweek magazine story ...

Speaking of SEMA: Any news on a 2009 ACR?

Well, the truth is that Dodge will need to sell a whole bunch of those Challengers, so the focus would seem understandable. (In fact I'm worried about whether Dodge can/will sell enough of those cars if they don't manage to get them included into rental car fleets, as Ford does to rationalize...

Why 3.07 gears in the Viper

I want to be clear too ... the SRT-10 puts out awesome performance even with the stock 3.07s.. I just think that, overall, you can't go wrong with 3.33s. The fact that the 2008s will have a higher redline makes an even better case for 3.33s, since you will be able to hold each gear a bit longer...

Why 3.07 gears in the Viper

What track? It would kind of depend on the track. To run out of gear in 4th with 3.33s would have to be at very high speeds that most people would not regularly be driving at (when I ran the 1/4 mile, I was just shifting into 4th at 123+ mph at the end) -- certainly not often enough to give up...

Speaking of SEMA: Any news on a 2009 ACR?

Autoweek is about as available as Knitting Quarterly around here ... no news on the Autoweek website (unless your talking about the Challenger)

Speaking of SEMA: Any news on a 2009 ACR?

... It's already been announced. It was quoted in the December MT magazine -- estimated price, $99K: (The bad news for Vette fans is that it's also been confirmed that the same boring C6 style will be in place until 2013.)

    Viper Plant Goes Into OT

Absolutely. It's been the only recent Dodge product to be covered so extensively by the magazines, and it's crazy that it hasn't made it out into the market yet ...

Speaking of SEMA: Any news on a 2009 ACR?

A while back it seemed like an SRT-10 ACR was already planned for 2009. I would assume the Mopar race parts for 675HP, along with the Aero stuff and some new wheels ... (I would be most interested in any new ACR wheels for my '08 that I have on-order)

Why 3.07 gears in the Viper

I would say the 3.55s get in the way for road racing, but 3.33s do not. I had 3.45s, and switched them out for 3.33s -- perfect. But make no mistake, the car bogs down under acceleration with the stock 3.07s, which were chosen by Dodge for EPA ratings -- 3.07s are NOT the optimal gear for stock...

If you were Cerebus, what would you do with the Viper?

That nails it. Case closed. :usa: (And as far as the idea of a cheaper watered-down Viper with a V8 ... nope, won't work. Thankfully, the Viper has way too much in the way of aggressive looks, unlike the bland Corvette. The Viper is a halo car. period. It shouldn't be Dodge's goal to sell a...

    Bang for the buck?

Paxton = $$$ ... all that HP is a good value, but no comparison to the bag-for-the-buck from gears, which are relatively cheap to do. If you go with 3.33s, you'll be happy no matter what ... if you go with 3.55s, you may want to change them again later, if you ever do get a Paxton in the future

    Is the 2008 Viper a GEN 3/3.5/4

I think only history will tell. If this turns out to be the last Viper, then it's a Gen 4. If there's a new Viper in another 3 years, then it was a Gen 3.5.

Roller Rockers? Worth the upgrade or not?

as for me, I went with 1.75 T&Ds and rods, but kept the stock springs ... otherwise, I'd just go all the way with Stryker heads (jesel rockers included)
