I totally agree. There is so much more to owning a car than a few seconds set at an arbitrary limit set by a particular driver on a given track on a certain day. We need to see Gen V's out there long enough for for a good number of people to truly wring these cars out. All this freaking out...
These alignment specs are a custom street align. The rear is running a bit more negative camber to avoid rubbing issues due to the 345 19 Michelins .(they just barely clear ;-} ) I felt like more negative camber in the front would be better as well, I get a few free adjustments on that. I...
I have recently installed some BC Racing coil-overs that I got a screaming deal on. Now that my GTS is nicely lowered, and I can easily control ride height, spring preload, and rebound adjustments, I would like some input on suspension balancing in terms of rebound dampening front to rear. On...
Be sure your charger/garage is properly grounded. Laying on ground makes you the ground if you have skin in contact with it. I have been zapped due to poor grounding and trickle chargers. The car can be live because it is insulated from the ground due to tires. Typically jack stands would...
Welcome to the 21st century. While I am not really sold on their visual appeal, I do believe they are effective safety devices. This is the next generation automotive norm like the advent of tail lights themselves, developing increasing presence from year to year since their addition to the...
Hey GTS Dean, that did the trick. I suspected that it was that simple, but alignment can sometimes seem like a dark art. Now I can take it to get fine tuned without rubbing issues. Thanks a bunch.:headbang:
This is what I thought. So if the cam bolts are rotated to achieve the desired wheel position, then dial in camber, I assume the toe adjustment must also be set as well, correct?
The alignment shop that I went to has an old guy that knows his stock alignments, but when I described the adjustment of the cams and such, he seemed to go blank. I couldn't get him to understand that "caster" can be set on the Viper. On the coil-over install I didn't touch the alignment bolts...
So, I finally installed my coil overs and the left rear is sitting rearward. Alignment shop says it is aligned well. I inspected the lower control arm cams and they are adjusted 180 degrees apart with a rearward bias. What gives?
Awesome prep on that one. Nice wheel fit. I just lowered mine and I'm getting a slight rub on the inner inner rear wheel well. Any rubbing in your case? Excellent choice of color, by the way....
Wow, this read certainly shows the power of the media and the internet. You get a couple a tools from a car mag running their "test" and, and their results and opinions trump all the heart and soul efforts that have been poured into resurrecting the Viper from the ashes of a recently flamed out...
I was in Southern California during the International Auto Show, and I, naturally went straight over to the SRT/Dodge/Chrysler display where they had the black/gun metal striped Gen 5 for all to see. I was really impressed at the amount of interest in the Viper, in particular, and the other...
I just can't believe what I am reading here in regards to the Viper's very preliminary "numbers." Edmunds? Come on...First off you have to get these cars in the hands of Viper drivers who know how to handle the way the torque comes on. Everyone knows that non-Viper educated drivers often make...
The whole concept of comparing sport sedans and sport cars is flawed in my opinion. I don't drive a Viper to haul anyone around in comfort. I didn't buy to car the drive from San Francisco to New York. I don't drive the car because I want and easy, tame, detached, practical, experience while...
I'll post pictures and write up a short review of the BC adjustables as soon as I get this sorted. I am running 19" Forgestars, so I am a tad concerned about potential rubbing. We shall see; this is certainly not the kind of assembly delay that I expected--now the rain is here.
I vote for a dropped seat. I have seen this before on a Honda. The seat was following the valve up and down causing strange and intermittent misfires and clacks/ticks. finally the seat jammed in an out position and yielded an image similar to yours. I took off the head and saw the surprise...
The way that they make them fit applications of different length is by changing the amount that the shock tube is screwed into the forks or bottom mounts. Their shocks lower the car 3 / 4 of an inch off the bat, with more possible. They have a marked minimum amount of safe insertion into the...
I have a call in to the manufacturer with a substitution in mind. In the event that they don't have a Gen 2 compatible clevis, would it be possible to use the mounts off of my OEM shocks? I am wondering about the threads on the Koni tubes being "standard" o/d and thread. These BC units were...
I got a great deal on some BC coil-overs from a friend that got them for his Viper and never mounted them before selling, but the rear shock fork they sent with them is 20mm too wide. I was wondering if the lower rear shock bushing is wider on Gen-3 and 4 cars relative to the Gen-2's, thus the...
Part of what makes the previous generation of Vipers so much fun is the fact that driving them is like playing with fire--they can easily burn you, and quite possibly kill you if you are an idiot and don't respect them. At the same time, so can acetylene welding. Put that same torch in the...
Turns out that James is in the Aston, Jeremy is in the LFA, and of course Hammond is in the Viper. Here's some pics off a lexus board. Note that it is shadow blue pearl, and not black.

And here they go down the Vegas...
To avoid sealing trouble mating new pipe to the old header flange, use a flat abrasive block like a small brick up against it and swirl it around for a couple of passes. Examine it to see if there are any high/low spots revealed in the rust. A few taps with a hammer or passes with a file to...
