    Burned side-sill insulation

After pulling off my side sills, I noticed that the insulation over the catalytic converters had the was pretty well burned. The thin metal cover was crisped off, and I could see the yellow insulative material in a large patch over where the cat is. Does anyone know if this is something I...

    "Race Car" smell?

Re: \"Race Car\" smell? It's not a really strong sulphur smell, more of a hint of acridity in the smell. I had the same smell in my Lotus, come to think of it: smells like Victory. Anyway, I'm leaning towards the burning clutch theory - is this something that I should worry about, or is it a...

    "Race Car" smell?

\"Race Car\" smell? Whenever I really drop the hammer on my '98 GTS, I get what I always think of as the "race car smell". It's kind of a mixture of lubricant, sulfur, and ozone. Not an unpleasant smell, really, but it occured to me that I should possibly be concerned that this might indicate...

    Suspension mods.....

I've ordered a set of Delrin bushings from Autoform, and have a question. What is line-boring of the control arms? Also, can a reasonably technical guy with a decent jack and a set of wrenches (such as Yours Truly) install suspension bushings, should I take it to my Viper Tech, or should I...

Insurance claim for a "replacement Viper"

Re: Insurance claim for a \"replacement Viper\" After talking with my insurance company, they faxed me the section of Washington State vehicle code that supports this. In short, the code says that I'm entitled to a replacement vehicle comparable to the vehicle that I was deprived of. (This is...

Insurance claim for a "replacement Viper"

Insurance claim for a \"replacement Viper\" I was recently in a small fender-bender in my Viper, with the other party 100% at fault. Since I didn't have my car back for the weekend, I rented a Panoz Roadster to attend the annual VCA picnic last Saturday. (I had intended rent a Viper, but it...

    plug Problem solved now this...

From what I heard, this happens because the reservoir and cap are made out of different materials that expand from heat at different rates. You might go to your parts store and try out some PS caps from, say, a Dodge Ram pickup, or other similar-year Dodge vehicle, since I doubt that Dodge...

    eradispeed rotors

JonB has them on the www.partsrack.com Web site - my recommendation would be to order them from him. Also get some stainless steel braided braked lines and the air deflectors while you're at it.

God hates me (long, but on topic)

Thanks for the condolences - I'm trying to look on the positive side. The shop that has done work for me before - Eurotech Bodywerkes - is full of nothing but craftsment who really take the time to get the car perfect. So, when I tell them to have every body gap and part back to "new factory...

God hates me (long, but on topic)

I should add a word here about Viper Days, for those who've never taken any performance driving instruction in their Viper. I've been to several, and have found them extremely valuable in building driving skills and learing how to handle the car. In this instance, I had a car pull in front of...

God hates me (long, but on topic)

So, about two weeks ago I got the Viper back from the paint shop, having done a complete repaint of my Silver/Blue 1998 GTS. No collision damage or anything, just a ton of rock chips and the ubiquitous issues with Dodge silver paint. So, on my sunny Friday drive in downtown Redmond, WA, a lady...

RT/10s at Thunderhill - legal or not?

The rear stay in your RT/10 has a rollbar integrated. I'm not sure of the spec, but it's pretty stout. JonB could give you exact details since Dodge mailed him a cutaway sample. In fact, the rollbar integrated into the back of the RT/10 is also present in the GTS. I've heard that some tracks...

    Viper 998 Recall Photos

I'd ask him to keep an eye out for anything that needs doing - if you have a competent Viper Tech then he should do that anyway.

    Viper 998 Recall Photos

Don Ruckman was good enough to provide me with a series of photos that he took while the 998 recall was done on his RT/10 by Cam McCracken. The photos are a step-by-step of the recall work, and show some good detail of the entire process. I've posted them as a gallery on the Washington VCA Web...

Anyone here ever been aproached to do this........?

Some Pacific NorthWest Viper Club members and I did some charity rides for a whole bunch (more that 60) grade school students at one of their fairs last March. Despite the rain, everyone had a great time and agreed that it was the highlight of the day. We just did a lap around a long block...

Hood Pad installed - Thanks JonB (photo)

A hood pad swap is very easy, but it's best to do it with 2 people. The hood pad needs to go under the hinge mounts, though most of it can be installed with the hood mounted. The way I installed mine was to have one person support the hood, while a second person undid the hinge mounting bolts...

Hood Pad installed - Thanks JonB (photo)

I notice that I get two holes in the Viper logo in the hood pad that are created by the hood hinge assembly. If you look in the above photo, you can see two large bolts in the cross-brace - these have worn all of the way through my hood pad. Does anyone have any idea on what might have caused...

Is there an easy way to mount a Sub in a GTS?

I'd like to see about adding a 10" subwoofer to the rear of my GTS, preferably in the right hand side pocket of the trunk. I know that I can mount it there if I have a custom fiberglass enclosure built, but I'm blowing all my spare cash on Viper Days, and so I'd like to do it on the cheap...

    Eibach & Northwind

Here is a picture of my car at Viper Days with the Eibachs. I'm not sure that you'd need both the lowered springs and the Northwind caps - my car handles noticably better with the springs, and if it was any lower then I would have to trailer it everywhere.

Do I need a "trap door" oil pan???

Re: Do I need a \"trap door\" oil pan??? I installed the PartsRack Stage 1 and Stage 2 oil kit in my '98 - basically the higher-capacity 10 quart oil pan, baffles (which look like hinges), and an improved windage tray. The difference for me is noticable on road coursed. I used to hear engine...

    Gas Pedal Rattle

Whenever I let off of my gas pedal, it rattles up and down and makes a godawful racket. I thought it was the spring on the pedal axis, but that looks good; it's the entire pedal assembly that's bouncing up and down. Does anyone have a known (preferably cheap and easy) fix for this? Aside, of...

    I finally have AM radio

Went to Schuck's auto parts and bought powered internal radio antenna for about $15.00. It sort of looks like a thin black ruler with a little read light to it. Anyway, I hooked it up, turned on the radio, and immediately had to crank the sound down about 50%! AM comes in clear, and there's...

    DC Extended Warranty Worthless?

I bought a 7/75K extended warranty from Bill Pemberton for less than $2K, and it has paid for itself 4 times over already - frame brace and new steering rack. You can get this handled by Woodhouse over the phone, which would be my recommendation. A

Can we dispel the "poor handling Viper" myth?

Re: Can we dispel the \"poor handling Viper\" myth? This point about "no car with a plate" is a good one. Generally for a non-Viper to pass me it will need to be a prepared car, no plate, no interior, with slicks. I don't think I've been passed recently - in the last 6 months or so - by a...
