new to me 2000 GTS overheating within minutes.

Don't use regular worm drive clamps - they will bite into the silicone and could cause it to fail Only use fully lined worm drive clamps - https://www.aircraftspruce.ca/catalog/eppages/breezelinerhexscrews.php (actually better to use fully lined on all hoses, but it's a bare minimum on silicone)

new to me 2000 GTS overheating within minutes.

On new builds or when i've flushed the system and don't want to use OEM for whatever reason I use Prestone all vehicle pre-mixed green ... I've been using it for over 20yrs and 15 vehicles with no issues.

    Gen 1 Differential Fluid Change

I was going to do the differential fluid on my Gen 2 shortly ... I don't recall seeing a drain plug on mine ... that's weird they would have given it to a Gen 1 and not gen 2 since drain plugs make the job so much easier.

new to me 2000 GTS overheating within minutes.

JB weld it back together? (sic) Actually, what do we do for water pumps? The last time I looked there was no stock of them and the only option was to send it to a Viper specialist like Havik or ViperStore to have it rebuilt.

Amsoil 75w90 good for late model Gen2 transmissions?

I think I spent 5 or 6 hours reading every thread about T56s and transmission fluid at this point, lol I started getting frustrated when people talked about mixing ATF and two different types of gear oils so I just threw in the Amsoil GL4 75w90 transmission fluid and took it for a drive - felt...

Amsoil 75w90 good for late model Gen2 transmissions?

Is Amsoil 75w90 manual transmission/transaxle gear oil a good choice for a late-model (2001+) gen2 t56 transmission (with the syntorque sticker on it). It says GL-4 and Chrysler MS-9070; where I'm getting confused is there are some posts suggesting that Tremec at one point said to just run...

    Upsize alternator wiring?

Just as follow up, I finally got around to driving the car. The new wiring makes a huge difference in the real world (i.e., not just idling and stabbing it with my multimeter). The needle on the volt gauge is solidly over the 14 hash mark and stays that way all through the drives. I've never...

Another crank no start thread but with a twist

gen 2 vipers don't have a clear flood mode (I'm guessing the crate engine ecu doesn't either). Or don't hold it to the floor, just stab the gas a bit to open the throttle body while cranking to see if it starts when adding air. basically just try starting it by adding more air to see if...

Another crank no start thread but with a twist

If you hold the gas pedal to the floor when cranking will it start? (i.e., add more air) 2yrs ago I re-tuned my 01. Worked perfectly fine. Then last year I went to start it and it would not start. Only crank crank crank, no fire. When I held the tbs opened then it would all of a sudden...

    Upsize alternator wiring?

I believe I have a gen 2 fan, definitely not a gen 3 and probably not a gen 4 unless that's what the ViperStore sells. The reason I thought about upsizing the wire is because when I built my 65 cobra I originally ran a 6ga wire. That thing is as bare bones as possible, and when my radiator...

5245322 PCV Grommet NLA / Substitute

Unfortunately not anymore - intake's back on and that sucker isn't coming off - just have to remain a mystery for the time being. But can you post the ID of your pcv port hole for future reference.

    Upsize alternator wiring?

Victory is mine! I ran a 2ga wire from the alternator to a 150 amp mega fuse, then to the starter stud. Upsized the alternator ground to 2ga. I pulled the factory 6ga wire out of the harness and ran it to a junction block incase i ever want to use it again for something (I was concerned about...

5245322 PCV Grommet NLA / Substitute

Effectively - I'm using a brass barb fitting and not the OEM piece, but same difference. It would need substantial additional radial bite in order to fit like my original grommet, more than just swelling or stickinga fitting in could achieve.

    Upsize alternator wiring?

If the PCM were culprit I would think it would struggle to charge with any loads on it, no? All the threads I've read on here where the PCM was the culprit (and the person installs an external voltage regulator to solve it) all had slow/constant voltage drops while driving. I'm good until the...

    Upsize alternator wiring?

2001; aftermarket accessories are radio, intercooler pump, 2x Walbro 267 and radiator fan from TheViperStore. Canadian car so low beam headlights are always on. On a fully charged battery when I start & idle the car and check the voltage w/ a multi-meter I get 13.9 (intercooler pump and dtrl...

TPMS Woes? READ THIS FIRST, *before* you waste a bunch of time and money

The ABS sensor in my 04 cobra died. I did not feel like replacing it since ABS is for *******, but the ABS failure light bothered me. So I just unplugged the bulb behind the dash and it's been great for the last 20 years :)

5245322 PCV Grommet NLA / Substitute

Definitely not my experience - all 3 I bought just slipped in (while putting my original one back in was a SOB) I asked Viper Parts Depot and they insist there's only 1 grommet So yea, that means either later gen models have a different sized hole (seems unlikely), somebody modified mine...

5245322 PCV Grommet NLA / Substitute

I've got 3 "different" grommets from 3 different sources - they all measure the same and the markings look the same, so there's probably only 1 manufacturer. When you install a PCV grommet in your block, would you characterize it as a tight fit (i.e., does not move around the hole) or a...

TPMS Woes? READ THIS FIRST, *before* you waste a bunch of time and money

I don't understand - any time I've had a TPMS sensor die I just go to my regular tire shop, they stick in a new one, clone it and away I go. Is there something unique about Viper TPMSs, like most cloning tools can't read them?

5245322 PCV Grommet NLA / Substitute

I did - my research suggests there's only 1 grommet. However, in some catalogues the OEM number goes back to just 2001-2002 Vipers, and in others it goes back to 1994. I've never had a pcv grommet with a snug-but-relatively-loose fit before, so it makes me think that maybe the dimensions...

5245322 PCV Grommet NLA / Substitute

Did the PCV grommet hole change in dimensions during the Gen 2 run? I have my intake manifold off so figured I'd change the grommet as cheap insurance while I'm there. I bought the standard "fits every Chrysler since the beginning of time" grommet - NAPA 6301073 - and while it does fit the...

    Can never trust new parts

Cars today are piece of garbage. Car parts today are pieces of garbage. Workers' attitude are in the toilet. Society's a ******** these days. We need to go back 20 years in time.

    Oil Filter Recommendations

I used Wix/Napa Gold filters for decades, but wix turned to garbage after M+H bought them and then Napa Gold got outsourced to some junk chinese manufacturer. Very disappointing that part quality has gone down the toilet over the years :(

    Can never trust new parts

Thanks but I bought another new Mopar one from Rock Auto .... just wanted to vent that the employee on the assembly line couldn't be bothered to take 1 second to spin it to make sure it's good It just feels like the quality of the auto sector - parts and labor - has gone into the toilet these days.
