    Battery

My '04 will start after sitting over the winter months - at least 8 weeks. I would check the battery connections. I had the terminal clamp completely corrode away causing the click, click - I don't consider that a battery failure.

Who's keeping their SRT 100% stock?

The exactly three things not totally stock on my '04 is the cruise control, needed to avoid speeding tickets on trips, the custom clamp on front license plate bracket I built, I couldn't bring myself to drill the front bumper, and the positive battery cable connector, I made a $3 fix as opposed...

problem getting parts for my 08 warranty

I couldn't get a new rear bumper to replace the one damaged in NY while at a red light for over two months. They found an unblemished used one in the end. I am still waiting for he "Dodge" emblem on the rear bumper!!

    HELP! - Crash Options

Thanks to all who replied back on this mess!! Getting back to work things were crazy so I couldn't get to these responses until after all was in motion to get the car fixed at a shop State Farm would guarentee. Looking back, I shouldn't have told the cop about the leaking battery when asked if...

    HELP! - Crash Options

I had a tough day yesterday as I was returning from a 2+ week vacation getting rear ended in Troy, NY. I was stopped at a red light when she plowed into me. She got a ticket for following too close. A cop filled out all of the paperwork and my insurance company has the report numbers. I...

ps2s on rear / runflats up front?

Is this the reason Viper rear ZPs are sold out nationally so everyone needs to buy 4 new tires? The ratio of rear wear out ot front is 2.5:1, but at least I wear them out quickly enough that none of the tires are over 3 years old, so by this discourse, they shouldn't be overly mismatched from a...

HELP...terminated from my job, need to get out of lease

I hadn't heard of a new '09s going for that little. If I didn't still have almost 30k and 3 years on my 7/70 bumper to bumper coverage left I'd be looking at getting a new one now. I truly hope the Viper survives for at least another couple of years!

    09 Viper or 09 Cayman S

Viper. I test drove a Boxster, which is basically a convertible Cayman and it was just too dull. My Viper's been over 40,000 miles in the three (Iowa) seasons I've had it and it has been VERY trouble free. The + battery cable rotted off and minor trim issues - just change fluids per the...

    Battery Cable Madness

When I tried a lubrication start up my '04 wouldn't start and a charge didn't help. It turned out the battery cables had corroded severely. The positive cable end was the worse with the clamp bolt rotted completely through and 1 of the 4 loops (there are two per side) completely gone. The...

Question for you guys, Buying an SRT10

I wouldn't worry about mileage. My '04 is 3 years old and has over 40,000 miles and still is like new. I look at condition and price, recognizing that higher mileage means the car should be had for less. I am not saving mine for the next owner and hope to shoot the mileage part of the 7/70...

    Silver or Red Vert?

Red. My red one's been over 40,000 - I'm not sure a silver one will go that far..... OR whatever YOU like best!!

    Viper - Worst of '08.

The world is full of idiots. Some are in a position where they have their opinions printed.

    Carbon fiber rocker panels!

You can fry an egg on the stock aluminum panels. What temperature will the resin in the carbon fiber burn? Hoods, fenders, doors, sure; rocker panels - not worth the risk of fire to me....

    '06 SRTC engine blown w/ 6k miles???

How often do you check the oil? Never in over 3000 miles since your last oil change? It had to have oil in it after that last oil change. There's NO WAY you were able to run 3000 miles without oil from whoever changed it. Your engine must have burned it out enough to trash itself over the...

Did you buy brand new for your first Viper?

I bought my '04 new in '05. I was willing to pay the $10,000 premium to be the first owner. I have no regrets as I had been keeping my old Corvettes like new with a lot of time, money, and blood and having never bought a new convertible or sports car wanted a trouble free ride for a change. I...

Multi Car owners, how big is your garage?

I have a nominal 6 stall garage: 36 x 44. It currently is holding 7 cars and 4 motorcycles with an engine job in process on the largest car. It's proof a garage can never be too big.... The 7 cars include 5 convertibles: '04 Viper, (2) '69 Corvettes, '68 Impala, and '61 Corvette. The...

    miles on the clock

I have driven my '04 bought new in June '05 40,330 miles so far. It's off the road for at least 4 months each year to avoid road salt. She's seen several 1300+ mile road trips (IA to NH and back). I also drive it to work often, although not quite daily. I'm not saving it for the next owner...

Very fast 08 Convertible for sale

You need to find the right buyer. Some people like to have warranty on a car that new so, 600 HP with a warranty might be more valuable to them. I for one like having a 40,200 mile car that still has nearly 30,000 more warranted miles after three (Iowa driving) seasons ('04 bought new in Jun...

    0w40 or 10w30?

I'd like to hear a response to this as well. I have an '04 that calls for 10-30 and a dealer told me NOT to switch to 0-40 since there MIGHT be something different internally (albeit unlikely). The sole issue is maintaining warranty. I am half way on mileage and 3/7 through the time warranty...

Drove the Viper from Florida to Maryland

I will take off with my Viper for my 3rd Iowa to NH trip a week from Wednesday. I did add cruise control to avoid tickets. I will likely rack up 4000+ miles during the 2+ week vacation. I will be doing the 36,000 mile oil/filter change and its second differential oil change when I get there...

    2008 Double clutch reliability ?

Point 1: If designed right, the separator plates just need to be thick enough!! Point 2: Exactly right! I'd also add since you have pointed this out, that the less clutch inertia the better the car will accelerate, the same effect as a lightened flywheel.

    2008 Double clutch reliability ?

I didn't really see an explanation on how they actually work so I will give it a shot. There are two clutch disks and an intermediate separator plate tied to the clutch housing, which is, as in a regular clutch tied to the flywheel. This provides 4 friction surfaces doubling the torque...

    VSS wire

I accessed mine( for a cruise control) under the LH inner fender well. It's been almost three years ago so I can't remember the color of the wire.

How long before you received your Viper did you have financing approved/settled?

I just wrote a check after holding back on some CDs. My wife STILL thinks I (we?) can't afford it and she has YET to sit in or ride in the car after 3 years and 32800 miles. It is HER loss!!
