So I had a bit of a run in today with my power steering system and thought I would just share the suggestion to those that need the reminder/insight.
Be sure that a few times a year you reach down and tighten down the power steering cap as tight as it goes. It is common that these come loose...
Steve,
It's clear I just checked it earlier. It has been kept all stock (no uninformed techs touching it). I have some potentially disappointing news for you that I just figured out. As mentioned above, I did a quick search for that Mopar P/S number 4883077 and Mopar has officially replaced...
My concern now at this point though is that I need this stuff today because my cap popped off (as it does) and I lost some fluid. While it does still read on the stick, it's at the very bottom well below the cold line so I really need to add some, but I don't want to go pick up some of the wrong...
So I got a question on this now. The wizard clearly recommends MOPAR P/S fluid #4883077 and I've heard a few others suggest Redline.
Where do I purchase the Mopar P/S fluid? From a dealership? I did find a link to the website of a local dealer but it has a different part # and says it replaces...
All,
Has anyone seen these brake pads Autozone offers for the Viper? They have some sort of wear indicator wire coming off them that's supposed to plug up somewhere. I would be surprised quite honestly if 1999 had a mechanism to detect when the brakes are warn, but I may be wrong. Is Autozone...
I just had this same problem crop up on my 99. Thank goodness I didn't go buy an actuator for nothing. Brittle wires indeed. I soldered in about 6 inches of fresh wire and boom everything is working again! Thanks everyone!
Thanks for this post folks. I have owned my viper now for about 4 months. Immediately after I bought it I thought it was strange that the little lock/unlock light didn't glow, but since it unlocks by opening the door handle I never paid it much mind. About 3 weeks ago I noticed sometimes I'd...
I thought I had a pretty good one. Visceral Blue. I think the thing I've loved about vipers for so long is that there is just something so raw about them. They are unapologetically rough, loud and unrefined. They touch something "visceral" inside of all guys. The definitions of visceral are...
What does everyone think about the 3 color names up for vote in the Viper Color Contest? Flat out, I think they all suck.

Is that seriously as creative as those guys over at SRT can get? I tended to believe the reason they got the viper community...
I have a 1999 Viper GTS. My 12 volt cigarette lighter port does not have power. The obvious first guess is a fuse. Can someone point to where the fuse is for this thing? If anyone has some troubleshooting gotcha's regarding it too I'd take those as well. I am at the start of diagnosing what...
Thanks guys. That is really helpful. Also, that picture pains me seeing the door all damaged. Ouch!
By the way is the forum supposed to give me a notification when I get replies to these threads or do I need to turn some notification thing on or just monitor my posts for replies? Clearly I'm...
@Speedracer, do you have any photos or videos on this? The driver's door on my new-to-me Gen 2 has some sagging and its rubbing the door seals. Which plastic cover are you referring to? Also, the door hold?? (I don't know what the official name is) is worn out so when I open the door it wants to...
Thanks Venom good feedback. I like the idea of the Defender Spray, but I also imagine they made a sacrifice putting it into a "consumer ready" state like the spray can. I imagine the results are similar to spray painting a car vs. using an HVLP spray gun. Results will just be less than stellar...
Has anyone tried 3M's new Paint Protector system? I'm thinking about using it on my Gen 2 viper to protect against nicks and chips, but I'd like to know if anyone has experience with it first. It seems to be safe?? I'm not sure how effective it is either. You can google it, but here is a short...
Yea there are many ways to write it. We're getting into semantics a bit here, but NOx is just an abbreviation for Nitrous Oxide. It's basically the same as saying O2. They measure Oxygen because they need to optimize the balance...the reason to optimize this balance for rear sensors is purely...
@Speed, I didn't mean "knock" sensors I actually meant NOX sensors as in NOx (Nitrous Oxide) the pollutant put out of the car. I didn't want the sensors tripping and giving me a service engine light... or if it would, then what I need to do to adjust for it.
I don't plan on getting too...
All,
I just recently purchased my first ever Dodge Viper. It's a beautiful 1999 GTS that's Red with Silver racing stripes. Still trying to find accurate build info on it but that's a different journey to find good numbers. I've already engaged on the forums for figuring out more info...
Okay so where does the Viper Registry get it's information? It obviously conflicts with a website directly ran by SRT (who SHOULD know their numbers). I haven't been able to get a response out of them though. Nothing helpful anyway. I would need to send in an official request by snail mail only...
Kevin, are you still in the Austin area? I'm a brand new viper owner myself (just picked it up last week). I'm in the Austin area. When is the next get together!?
Ok so there is one problem with this here. I initially accepted this as true, but then if you go to SRT's own website, they show very different numbers. Go here: http://www.drivesrt.com/heritage/timeline/ and then click on over to 1999. At the top of the page you will see they state 484 as the...
