so what does everyone seem to be using???

Well, in that case, I have even less reason to trust the engineers. If they didn't discover in the years of testing before production started that the engine "needed" a different oil than what they were using...? When it comes down to it, use what you want in your car. Mine's running...

so what does everyone seem to be using???

If that's true, then why did the factory-fill switch from 10W-30 to 0W-40 in the middle of Gen III production? For the record, I will trust an ex-auto fluids formulator who has nothing to gain or lose by recommending a specific oil or weight (i.e. Tom recommending 15W-40 or 5W-40 diesel oil)...

    Any head unit install gurus??

So you kept the stock amplifier, it sounds like? I finally got around to taking some pictures of my setup. Amp is a JVC Arsenal 800W, sitting just behind the seats. I ran the RCA cables and remote turn-on lead under the center console, ground to the stud behind the parking brake...

    Any head unit install gurus??

To keep the stock amplifier, yes.

    Any head unit install gurus??

If you change the amp, you don't have to worry about splicing into the DIN cable or finding an adapter. Hook up the speakers to the new amp outputs, run RCAs to the head unit, power and ground and you're done. I mounted the new amp on the shelf behind the seats, dropped a power cable through...

    Any head unit install gurus??

Second that. I just finished installing new amp/head unit/speakers. I couldn't find a wiring harness for the stock radio plug anywhere--you're just going to have to cut into the wires.

    Will 5w-30 hurt my engine

I'm going to guess at Tom F&L GoR's response here: no. The first number (5W) indicates the oil's viscosity at cold temperatures; it's still a 30 weight at normal operating temperature. Of course, Tom will also probably say you're better off using a 15W-40 mineral or 5W-40 synthetic diesel...

    Definitive High Beam Number?

9011 is a really weird-looking bulb, and I've never been able to find a direct replacement. 9005 fits the same socket. 9006 does not fit either low or high beam. If upgrading to HIDs, both sockets take 9005.

Gen 3/4 Rear Console Speaker Box

Crutchfield has incorrect information. I believe Gen III/IV has 3/4" tweeters (so I've heard, but Gen II has 1" tweeters, so they may be 1" in Gen III as well), 6" woofers in the doors (three-hole mount), a 6.5" subwoofer, and 2 3/4" midrange (don't quote me on that one, though).

Airbag light came on with dash removal...

Entirely possible, as I was in there to replace the bulbs behind the HVAC controls, among other things.

    Definitive High Beam Number?

9011 from the factory, but can be replaced with 9005.

Airbag light came on with dash removal...

No, actually the airbag light on the message center in the instrument panel. I guess no one else has had this problem before...I'm going to try resetting the PCM and see if that does anything, since everything is back together now.

    Underbody Neon Lighting

Seems there's some confusion here as to what constitutes "ricing" versus "pimping." As the resident Gen Y'er, here's a quick guide: Neon underbody lighting: rice hydraulics/air suspension: pimp LED valve stem caps: rice carpeted dash: pimp fuzzy dice: pimp lighted license plate frame: rice...

    Underbody Neon Lighting

You make me feel pretty good about myself, Dave, because no matter what I do to my car, it's not nearly as ricey as yours! Now back to installing those Altezza tail lights...

Gen 3/4 Rear Console Speaker Box

Most likely. If the actual box is vibrating too (sounds like it might be based on your description?), you could add vibration damping mat (Dynamat or similar--I like Second Skin Damplifier) to quell that. But your best bet, I think, is going to be replacing the (paper cone) stock subwoofer...

Gen 3/4 Rear Console Speaker Box

Actually, you can replace with an aftermarket 6.5" sub (there are four available, from Kicker, JL, Lanzar, and MB Quart), and get better bass response than the OEM sub.... Several have done this. It's a drop-in solution, no modification, and not very expensive (<$100, depending where you buy it).

Airbag light came on with dash removal...

Took my dash out, disconnected the window switches, defroster switch, etc. to do so. When I started the car to move it while everything was still disconnected, the airbag light came on, and no air is coming through the upper or lower dashboard vents (defroster vents near the windshield are...

How Can I Find Out What My Build Date Is ?

If it's the same as a Gen I/II, on the driver's side door tag there's a number marked MDH. First two digits are the month, then day, then hour the car was completed. Mine says 043015: April thirtieth, at three pm.

I have a few detailing questions...

I read some threads on here about Meguiar's Scratch-X working pretty well for the stains on the rear bumper, so I picked some up and used it to clean up my side sills--worked like a charm. I haven't used it on the bumper yet, but I expect it will work just as well there. For plastic/vinyl...

Kicker speakers and Dead Pedal installed

I don't think I've ever seen a six-ohm car speaker aside from the two I pulled out of the car. You should be able to replace it with either a four-ohm or eight-ohm. With the higher impedance of the eight ohm speaker, however, the amplifier will not be driving as much power to each speaker. If...

Kicker speakers and Dead Pedal installed

For those interested in a more comprehensive upgrade for their door speakers, Kicker makes a set of component speakers (separate tweeter and midrange woofer) with the same three-hole mount as the full-range KS600, model KS60.2. You have to take the door panels off to replace the tweeter and...
