Re: \'98 GTS Ported Heads & Exhaust Dyno Results
Hey Matt, how you been? I LOVE my GTS. I would highly recommend it. I haven't actually sold the Cobra yet, but I do have someone who is "supposed" to be buying it. You know how that goes...
Good luck with your Viper hunt.
Re: \'98 GTS Ported Heads & Exhaust Dyno Results
Thanks again. This thread is bringing quite a few variance in opinion.
BigCarrot - You are correct, we did get them done pretty quick. I think we could have made more power out of them if we had a set of heads to cut into segments first...
Re: \'98 GTS Ported Heads & Exhaust Dyno Results
Thanks for the input. I'm thinking about trying a VEC1 and maybe some 70mm TB's, and removing the rain baffle next.
Also, are the headers that big of a gain over the stock '98 manifolds? They appear to be a decent design. If so, I don't think I...
\'98 GTS Ported Heads & Exhaust Dyno Results
Well, unfortunately, I didn't get an opportunity to do a basline dyno stock. So all I can do is guess at what kind of gains I got.
I'm not sure if these are impressive numbers or not. I will say that I'm pretty sure it could dyno more, but I was...
I seem to be having a hard time finding anyone who really knows about the Viper valve springs. Including Comp Cams. With ported heads and T&D 1.7 rockers, I feel like a little more valve spring pressure is in order. I found the stock springs to be about 100lbs. Seemes really low for a Hyd...
Thanks David. How could I not want to help out with such a well planned gathering? I can't believe this is the first time you've organized such an event. Scary...you can only get better from here.
For those that are curious, we have been known as LS1 Motorsports for the last 5 years now, but...
Just booked my room at the Best Western. I booked it for Friday and Saturday night (may 2nd & 3rd)...is this what everyone else is doing? Or are some of you showing up Thursday night?
I'll give you a call in a little while David to discuss the details.
Thanks.
Hang out nothin'! I'll be there making passes! Now that I found out my car only has a bad timing cover gasket, I'm ready to sign up.
How do I get registered for it? Do you need any more sponsor money, awards, etc.?
Thanks!
Dr Roof - I own LS1 Motorsports (also known as Quarter Mile Performance now). www.LS1Motorsports.com or www.QuarterMilePerformance.com We have missed each other several times now. Josh Clemons (where you dynoed that beast) is my ex-Brother-in-Law. I have a deal worked out with him on the Dyno...
Re: \'98 GTS - New Owner, Weird Problem, Head Gasket or Not?
Steve, that's pretty much what I had decided. It's killing me to finally own my dream car, and not be able to drive it. Either way, it will be Friday at the soonest before I get the gaskets from Dodge.
Re: \'98 GTS - New Owner, Weird Problem, Head Gasket or Not?
There's a couple vidoes of my Z28 on my website:
Scroll down a little and just above the dyno graph picture, you'll see a Blue Hyperlink to the videos.
I've got the video of my Buick running a...
Re: \'98 GTS - New Owner, Weird Problem, Head Gasket or Not?
Well, after receiving several direct emails from some of you yesterday, I decided to go ahead and remove the timing cover. Low and behold, it was blown inward. Leaking coolant directly into the oil pan.
Now I can't decide whether to...
Wow...that's sort of ironic. I'm the guy that emailed you a week or so about buying your car (I was on vacation in Florida at the time). I bought a '98 GTS Silver last week. You've probably read my mishap post about it already.
So now there will be two new to the Louisvill area Silver '98...
Re: \'98 GTS - New Owner, Weird Problem, Head Gasket or Not?
Well, got the heads off with no problems. As you all said, piece of cake. HOWEVER....I can find absolutely NOTHING wrong. The head gaskets are perfect. As are the heads and the engine block surfaces. Using a known straight edge, the...
Re: \'98 GTS - New Owner, Weird Problem, Head Gasket or Not?
Today is the day...if nobody has any ideas about the timing cover, I'm going to yank the heads this afternoon.
Last chance....suggestions?
Thanks.
Re: \'98 GTS - New Owner, Weird Problem, Head Gasket or Not?
Definitely wasn't the ocean, lol. Though it looked like the ocean ran through my oil pan.
I spoke with Chuck Tator (super nice, helpful guy BTW) and ordered the complete gasket set. Since I probably won't have it until the end of...
Re: \'98 GTS - New Owner, Weird Problem, Head Gasket or Not?
Anybody have any tips on how to check to see if it's coming from the timing cover gasket without removing it? I don't really want to take it apart if it's okay.
I already have the intake off, but it was late and I stopped there...
Re: \'98 GTS - New Owner, Weird Problem, Head Gasket or Not?
Thanks for the input. I was hoping that someone else with a GenII had experienced the same thing (okay, maybe "hoping" isn't the right word).
Anybody else ever have a timing cover gasket leak "IN" to the engine??
In all my years...
\'98 GTS - New Owner, Weird Problem, Head Gasket or Not?
I just picked up a '98 GTS two days ago from a guy in Chicago. Drove it home (300 miles) and no problems at all. Yesterday, drove it to work, and got on it a couple of times. Shifted at 5500, ran it up to about 100mph, that was it. Pulled...
