Fluids freshening, recommendations - brake, etc

No point in flushing the power steering fluid so soon. You should do the brake and clutch fluid. I'd go for a DOT 5.1 fluid as they are a little thinner and good for ABS systems. Don't use DOT 5 as that is silicone based and can't be used with DOT 3/4 systems. - Anthony

    Mobil1 10w30 Used Oil Analysis

Hey Ted - do you mind removing your post? The image is huge, and I don't want people to be confused when they see another report in here that isn't from a Viper. Thanks. Furthermore, I used to use Blackstone, but the analysis isn't nearly as complete as the one that Terry gives you. I...

    Mobil1 10w30 Used Oil Analysis

This should be fun :) Here are the results from my UOA on M1 10w30 that was used in my Viper for roughly two years, but only 2500 miles. The previous owner figured an extended drain would be OK since the car was not driven very much. The main area that this affected was the TAN (Total Acid...

    3rd gear whine

I went by the Dodge dealer today and took a ride with their Viper tech, and he said it is definitely gear whine. I'm taking it in next Monday, and most likely it will be getting a new transmission. - Anthony

    Motive Mag ACR Review

We also ran a review of a SSG Viper Vert last summer, which was one of the first articles we ran after we launched the site. motivemagazine.com - Motive Road Test: Snake on a Plane - 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Glad you guys liked the article. I'll let Bryan know! - Anthony

EBC Reds Squeal Like a Pig..Is it normal?

The Hawk Performance Ceramics can do some weekend events, but they are more geared towards a high performance street pad rather than a street/weekend pad. If you aren't tracking the car you have nothing to worry about, and they should perform better than the OEM pads and create a lot less dust...

EBC Reds Squeal Like a Pig..Is it normal?

Yes, but they are still more aggressive than the Green's, which unless you are tracking your car every weekend, makes no sense to run. The Blue's are actually their dedicated track pad. Many message forums have an obsession with EBC pads, and I have no clue why. They are bad in the cold...

EBC Reds Squeal Like a Pig..Is it normal?

You can bed in the pads however you'll like, but they are still going to squeal. As I said above, it's the compound in the pad that makes them squeal and dust a lot. If you want a good street/weekend pad (although I think our stock pads are fine), with lower dust, then you need to look at a...

    0w40 or 10w30?

Don't confuse the winter number with the thickness of the oil. A 30 weight is going to be the same pretty much the same thickness regardless what buffers are in the oil to extend its temperature range. The w doesn't stand for weight, it stands for winter. So 0w-30, 5w-30, 10w-30, etc. The...

    Went autocrossing this morning...

Yes, it definitely takes a lot of smoothness with the old runflats. One of my friends was there and he wanted a ride, so I told him to hop in! All the other guys didn't want any more weight, but when you have 510hp, it really doesn't matter. ;) Just got some of the pics: And...

    0w40 or 10w30?

Thanks for the clarification. I did not know there was a change in the bearing design. I agree as well, M1 0w40 is a much better oil than M1 10w30. If you see the specs on the second page though, there are other 10w30 oils that are thicker than the M1 10w30. - Anthony

    0w40 or 10w30?

Valvoline VR1 is a great short-duration oil. It doesn't have a lot of the detergents in it so it can't do an extended oil drain. Unless you are racing the car, I don't see a need for this, however.

EBC Reds Squeal Like a Pig..Is it normal?

My problem with the EBC Greens was that they got so hot and they couldn't stand up the heat that they created, the pads would slightly melt and leave residue on the rotors. I went through three sets of rotors before I switched to cyrogenically frozen rotors. Even then, I had to get the rotors...

EBC Reds Squeal Like a Pig..Is it normal?

The pads squeal because of their compound, that's why.

EBC Reds Squeal Like a Pig..Is it normal?

I used to run EBC Green's and they squealed like crazy as well. It seems to be somewhat common with EBC pads, especially the Red's, as they are a track pad. If you don't want squealing and want low dust, then you want to run a ceramic pad, like the Hawk Performance Ceramics. If you want...

    0w40 or 10w30?

I was told the switch was purely M1 oriented, that the 10w30 M1 wasn't holding up as well, and that's why they switched to 0w40 M1... not because of any internal differences.

Did a few laps at Pocono in an '08 Viper...

You have to be a member of IMPA (International Motor Press Assosication). The test days were the only reason why I joined! :P There were about 20 manufacturers on hand with automobiles. The Viper was the fastest, but the Porsche Boxster RS60 was by far the most fun. That car is...

    Installed: Kicker KS600 6.5" Speakers

I will research the center speaker... I may go swap out my Kicker's for a different set tomorrow to see if they work better. I think mine may be slightly defective. I'm also going to look for a component set that may fit (in the doors).

Did a few laps at Pocono in an '08 Viper...

Yeah, but feeling 600hp when you are used to 510hp isn't as drastic of a difference. Ford had on hand a GT500 KR, but it was one of their prototype test cars, so they wouldn't let anyone drive it, just go for rides with their test driver.

    Went autocrossing this morning...

Yes, unfortunately 4 laps isn't enough to really get the course down. But the tires were the biggest set back here, as I just drove an '08 with the PS2's and that would have been a drastic improvement in the grip department. I love the Viper, but a smaller, more nimble and lighter car would...

    Went autocrossing this morning...

I was debating whether to take the S5, or have some fun with the Viper. I figured I needed to see just how bad these tires are so I could compare them with the PS2's on the '08 Viper I drove a day earlier. So I went with a friend to the BMW-CCA autocross in Maryland, and entered in their...

Did a few laps at Pocono in an '08 Viper...

I was at the IMPA test days at Pocono this week, and Chrysler brought out a 2008 Viper in dark red with silver racing stripes. Unfortunately it was the convertible, as I was hoping for the ACR. Oh well! It was my first time driving a 4th gen, and there are some good improvements. The...

    Installed: Kicker KS600 6.5" Speakers

OK, I just spent an hour in the car and I am 99% sure that my drivers side speaker is defective. When a song with bass plays, I can hear it destorting and it sounds like there is a tear in the cone or surround. I'm going to take them out and exchange them for another set and see how those...

Some awful substance on the paint.

Haha, maybe that's part of the problem. ;) The references to acetone, then dish soap (that is worthless), and simple green (which should never be used on a car), and paint thinner. There are products specifically developed for use on automotive paints, so I don't know why people try using...
