Its all about smoothness whether you are on the track or on the road. In theory, there should be no pitch forward or aft when shifting up or down. When done correctly, its smoother than an automatic transmission. This was the purpose behind the videos that I posted. Imagine an egg on the hood of...
Heel toe as you use the brakes primarily

Here is a great lesson. Fast forward to 13:00 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqYeusE8ksk
The biggest differences are piston size, adjustability (jounce/rebound, speed, etc.) and the spring rates. Long rides on the street can be rough on the bladder….even when on full soft. :) My wife makes me keep one car stock at all times.
I have a Golf R with a Bilstein coil-over set up. 35,000 street miles so far and 10+ track days. My last 3 Porsches..all coil over (Ohlins), over 20k road miles and 30+ track days each. Never a drop of oil. The last issue that I can recall is when my Audi blew a strut after I hit a pothole about...
Huh? In many years of racing professionally the only time a shock would leak is if the car went off or was hit! In my experience its been very rare….almost never! I mostly run Ohlins and Bilstein.
Is there the ability to corner balance the stock car? I can’t tell if the coil overs have a threaded spring perch.
Is there the ability to adjust camber and toe enough to obtain a decent track alignment? If so has anyone established a good set up?
Thank you,
Karl
15 to 20 is a big number and google cannot find a single other case, other than the one you pointed out. I called 2 dealers…one who is the largest dealer in the US. Zero cases. Hmmmmm.
You are right, and its all relative. So many of the cars these days are so damn close. Aside from drag racing, it would require a driver to hang it out to stand out from a group made up of super cars and competent drivers. (I am excited to get my TA 2.0 after exploring the limits of 9 straight...
Its all driver dependent anyway. I was at COTA Viper in a lightly modified Golf R and I was running faster lap times than 90% of the Vipers out there. On paper, they all should be kicking my butt!
The video of the Viper run is online and, as one having a ton a racing laps there, the driving sucked. Missed apexes, wrong gear on some spots, etc. The Z28 driver was on it. If driver of the Z28 drove the Viper (he did not) you can knock 2 seconds off the published lap time. Easily.
