10\" Sub install in 99 RT/10

I've done a search and it seems that installing a 10" sub in the passenger footwell area is the way to go. I know that the RT/10 isn't meant to have a "thumping" sound system but I figure something is better than nothing. I already have a 10" Kicker Solo Baric sub. It appears that a custom fiberglass box must be made to make this happen. Could someone that has done this let me know how much it cost to get a custom box like this made? I got a good deal on the sub (100 Bucks) a few years ago and I have a feeling that the box will cost me more than the sub did.

I had the same ideas...ended up putting an Infinity Basslink in the footwell. It is a 10" sub, built in amp, and puts out more bass than I need in one complete package. I bought one brand new thru an Ebay dealer for a great price (maybe $200ish) and as a plus it looks nice and comes out for those long trips with the pulling of 3 wire/plugs.

Just an idea for you!

thats definitely one solution to the bass dilema. the JL audio 6W0 while not a "true" sub, does put out some decent sound and it fits perfectly in the existing t-panel rear pod. another suggestion and one im going with; ive had the JL audio 6W0 for over a yr and now im going to install an 8" sub in the rear. itll take some modification but it can be done and it looks great. basically the speaker port will simply be extended outward almost another full inch to allow for the sub to fit properly. run it with a sep amp and then a 300x4 for a set of 6.5 MB quarts and components for the doors (6.5 do fit perfect with again some slight modification to the port for fitment.)

I'm assuming that you either didn't find this thread or don't like how it looks. IMHO it's the best way to go.

I beg to differ. If you use the stock, POS plastic backpanel, your just wasting your time. If you make a quality custom enclosure, like above, you will get excellent response. Why waste the room in the footwells? It looks alot cleaner where I mounted the 10".

Leaf, I'm sure your happy with your bass... But if you want the best bass you can get.. Bass is directional and needs obstacles to bounce off of .. How does your built in box sound when the roof is off?

99BLKRT, Go with the footwell, you'll be more pleased... and it will sound great with your top on and ok with the top off as the bass with bounce around in the footwell area before it gets to your ears..

gerald, i got ta disagree, bass bounces off of every damnn thing inside the ride, top or no top. and, with a custom built enclosure to replace the rear t panel, itll sound every bit as good as the floor mounted suggestion plus look like it belongs as opposed to a bigass box at the already limited pasenger footwell. the only thing the floor mounted has over the custom build is cost effectiveness and size superiority.
if 10" sub is enough and cost isnt a factor the t-panel is the choice place

I agree with Gerald, I have had my center sub enclosed & replaced with JL audio sub & I have the sub in the footwell. The footwell definately sound better. The bass needs something to bounce against. My footwell sub is pointed up.

I can understand the bass needing something to bounce off of arguement. I'm happy with my setup, it produces good sound with the top on or off and let your feel the "rumble" in your seat. I've never seen a footwell mounted sub, so I honestly can't compare.

Wow! Thanks for the excellent info. Since cost IS an issue at the moment (Still recovering from initial purchase of car) I think that I'll try the footwell area and see how that sounds.

No, I had it made when the rest of the amps & Sirius was installed. The sub in the center definately helps, & a sub by itself is pretty cheap. Stereo Hut in Houston did it for me. My wife is only 5'5" so the space taken up does not really bother her, actually she like it, she has something to push against when we take fast turns.

I put a 8" dual voice coil Cerwin Vega (Vega series) in my foot well. Requied 1 CF of airspace so I have the box made at an angle to min the actual floor space it took up. I then used a metal grill to protect. Sounds great, but I can bearly hear when the tops off!
