1996 Engine same as 92-95?

I've been looking but can't seem to get a straight answer on the 1996 engine. I have a 95, and found a smoking deal on a 96 motor, and want to pick it up for a spare if the essentials are the same. (20psi, here I come!)

Any help would be appreciated!

Same engine, but different electronics. 95' Viper is OBD1, 96' (RT and GTS) is OBD2

Same engine. With the exception of the cam gear, that is a VERY easy swap.
The harness is a little different but will work as well; you would have to swap a couple of pin-outs and add one wire.
It will work w/o a problem. Good luck!

I believe rear exhaust accounts for the difference in HP.

No, the heads and the blocks are totally different.

Not even close. Gen 1 block is the old boat anchor motor, approximately 80lbs heavier than Gen 2. Gen 2 is a Siamese block the Gen 1 block was a full wet sleeve.

Don't count the gen1 blocks out, they are beefier and have a sturdier main cap setup.
