HI, My 1996 gts that's all stock with 8000 miles just had the service engine soon light come on. I changed the plugs and the air cleaners are new stock units. What is the most likley cause as it is bugging me and the weather is too bad to go get it checked. Anyone had this and got it fixed. Also the cars idol drops after coming to a stop from speed it goes down to zero on tach gauge but does not die it pops right back up to around 500. What's up with that? Thanks Gene

Need more info... What are the codes?

If I had to guess, I would say that when you changed the filters, you forgot to or did not completely plug in the IAT on the back of the airbox.

Buy an OBDII reader from roeracing.com for $54.95. It will not only quickly tell you what code you are flashing, it will clear the code if you leave it plugged in for a few minutes. It's likely your maintenance activities caused the code which will clear after a few drive cycles. You will use this tool many times during your Viper ownership especially if you do mods to the car. :usa:

Look in the back of your service manual - there is a key on-off-on something sequence which will blink out the codes using the check engine light. More info will help you get a better diagnosis..... No code reader needed for a 1996 GTS.
