I went against what I think was a newer 500 AMG last summer when my 98 GTS was pretty stock... 60mph "roll" to 130 or so. He took off first, but I was able to pull away; not by much however (his front bumper to my rear).
The Benzes go like hell on a straight line. Also the SL55 AMG... With the automatic tranny I'm quite sure the SL would be shortly infront of a bone-stock 97 GTS.
It should come down to driver, the Viper driver. The SL600 auto tranny, especially from a 20mph roll, will run through the gears optimally every time. Those are very quick luxo cars running 11.90's for the mags. The thing is, anyone can do it unlike the Viper that requires some skill to extract the most from the car.
Last night it happened.
The SL600 held about a 1 car lead and won the 120mph race, but the race continued to about 170mph where in the end the Viper got by him by a nose or 2.
