I have heard that the 2000 gts has an oil burning problem if built before a certain month. Is there any truth behind this?

Is there anything i should be on the lookout for when purchasing a used one?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

My '00 had the "oil burning" problem - I got the Arrow rebuild done last December.

To give you a little background, this is my understanding of the issue. The first 200 or so 2000 Vipers built (the build date to look for is early November or before - my car was built 10/11/99) used powdered metal cylinder sleeves in place of the normal sleeves. The powdered metal manufacturing process allows the material to be far harder and more durable - for the most part this is a good thing, but in some of the cars in question the rings never seated properly because of the hardness of the sleeves. This caused the engine to use oil. My car used about 1 quart every 400 miles but otherwise ran normally (no smoke, loss of power, etc). The problem is diagnosed by running a compression test an leakdown test on all cylinders. My car's compression was fine but failed the leakdown test. Since the rebuild, it does not use oil and seems to run stronger.

I have NOT received any RECALL info (water pump or otherwise) on our 2001 Viper...and, yes, SOME have had impeller problems..repaired under warranty, as I understand it. There have been posts that mentioned a few late 2000's having similar problem, but I have no direct knowledge of same. Perhaps others can add more !

To "snoop" TSB's and Recalls...try this:
