The 2012 models will come out in Sept-ish, 2011. The end of the world doesn't happen until 12/21/2012. So the new CAFE standards have almost 15 months to save the Earth.:omg:

:panic:

If it's the same hp to weight ratio as now, then what's the concern? Not that hp/weight is the only thing involved, but it's a good sized player.

Same hp/weight would be great because accel may be same, but decel and cornering will be better. If it's lighter and smaller, maybe the tire size is something more common, too. Plus, adding 100hp to a 3200 lb car is better than to a 3800 lb car. Can't think what a downside would be.

CAFE is an AVERAGE...for non-complying vehicles there is the 'gas guzzler' tax

there is no reason that a small production car with an already high price tag is going to be 'upset' by a few thousand more in taxes

So, if Viper is still in production, no reason CAFE will affect it in any way.

There are other rules that can adversely affect the Viper, ones that have a strict compliance factor, but, CAFE is not one of them.

I just read that Corvette will lose horsepower thanks to new cafe standards in 2012. What does that mean for Viper...if there is still a Viper in 2012?:omg:
So what? It would have nothing to do with Viper, assuming it is still in production. I fail to see why some people on here seem so concerned about the corvette. This is the Viper club. Not the corvette club.

So GM's not going bankrupt or cutting back on vette prodution anymore? How's their ZR1 warranty working?

 Old news... GM spoke about downsizing the next C7 Vette back in the fall/2008.

A lighter car with the same hp/wt. ratio is an improvement... especially on the track.

Expect to see a V-8 ~5 liter (305 cu.in.) direct injection engine @ ~ 375 hp.

weighing ~ 2850lbs.

;) Current info indicates the C-7 model will be delayed out to 2013/2014, if GM's still around.
