Last Saturday, I picked up my 96 GTS from Jason Heffner. A friend and I took my wife's 2002 ZO6 from Indiana to Baltimore. We left about 3 AM, and we got there about 11:30 AM. Jason's new shop is coming together real well, and it's the perfect place for advanced snake surgery.
My car was sitting in the middle of his shop, and it looked great - all cleaned up and ready to go. Jason popped the hood, and I thought HOLY ****! The installation looked awesome. The attention to detail was phenomenal. He went through everything with me, pointing out all the goodies. The engine bay was spotless, as was the rest of the car.
The car has a JT Trim Vortech at 8 pounds of boost, HUGE air to air intercooler, fuel management system with high output injectors, B&B headers with Jet Hot coating, 3" stainless exhaust, complete head package, T&D roller rockers, Unitrax lightweight half-shafts, 18" GTS wheels (chromed) & tires, StopTech brakes at all 4 corners, TNT scatter shield, polished (not Extrude Hone) intake runners - ask Jason about this trick, special cam, timing chain, and radiator, 5-point restraints, 180 degree thermostat, short throw shifter, MGW stuff, etc.
Next came the "test drive". Jason took me out to a totally deserted stretch of highway. Half way through 2nd, he nailed it. It was like being catapulted off an aircraft carrier. Instant throttle response with explosive, brutal, mind bending acceleration. Into 3rd with more of the same. The sound that the car makes is unbelievable - it's downright evil. Jason shifted into 4th, and I was sure I'd pi**ed my pants, or suffered brain damage or something. At about 145 MPH, he eased up on the gas and shifted into 5th. We were both grinning from ear to ear.
From the beginning, I told Jason that I wanted a car that would be stone cold reliable for a daily driver, run on pump gas, absolutely no detonation, with at least 700 RWHP. I got all of the above except that my car makes 751 RWHP and 728 RWTQ. With a pulley change, I could have 850 with no sweat, but since the bottom end is completely stock, Jason thought that a "conservative" 8 pounds of boost and 750 RWHP would give me what I wanted. He was right. I was so confident, in fact, that I drove it 550 miles back home to Indiana. The car never missed a beat - it ran flawlessly the entire trip. Thanks Jason!
