Hello everyone.

I'm trying to understand the differences between 9005 and 9006 bulbs before replacing the headlights on my vehicle. I’ve seen people mention differences in brightness, beam pattern, wattage, fitment, and whether they can be swapped, but the information online seems inconsistent.

Are these bulbs interchangeable, or do they serve different purposes? If you’ve used both, Check out more info here and did you notice any difference in visibility, lifespan, or overall performance? Also, are there any compatibility issues or legal concerns when upgrading to LED versions?

I’d appreciate advice, recommendations, and real-world experiences.

9005 bulbs are high beam bulbs and 9006 are low beam bulbs. There is a difference in wattage, brightness, and beam pattern. Couldn't tell you if it is a reasonable swap with the extra draw on the wire harness or beam pattern.

I'd steer clear of the LED bulbs for headlights. If you don't have the correct housing for LED bulbs they will scatter blinding light everywhere you don't want it. Every time I get blinded by someone that does this, it makes me wish very bad things for them...that's as polite as I will be about that.

I think that's more of an issue of misaligned low beams more than anything. I recently spent a few months trying different LED bulbs and fog light options and it's pretty easy to misalign the low beams and fog led's. The oem fog lights yes, the led's I had initially in the OEM light threw light everywhere and were useless. I imagine most older cars with similar reflectors would throw light the same. https://youtu.be/sqnr8A2ar1E?si=bW8RMnOEzG6_FKi_
Since then I've gone to smaller tires and lowered the car more so they aim even lower and have to redo them lol.

To answer OP, I used 9005 LED's for low beam. A better upgrade you may consider is the bi xenon projector upgrade kit. A guy on there Viper FB pages sells it, just takes 4 bolts to swap out the projector and would be a great upgrade. Looking back I'd have gone that route.
