96 GTS vs 97 GTS ?

What are the differences between the 96 and 97 GTS? Engine, Transmission, Mechanical? Interior differences? Suspension? I know red/no stripes were available in 97, and the rims were improved on the later 97:s? Any help would be appreciated to make the decision easier. Thanks Jan.

Why would anyone opt for a '96 over a '97 besides the fact that 96's are the first year for the GTS?
The '96 stripes go through the license plate area and the '97's don't, but are there any other differences (besides the wheel change)?

I ask the opposite question... Why would anyone want a 1997 GTS when they could have gotten a 1996!

For some (me included) there is a novelty to having the original and I do like the uniqueness of the rear stripe. Beyond that, Steve is right. Find the best example in either year.

The wheels are the only weakness of the 1996 (and matter only if tracked) and buying a 1997 doesn't guarantee forged wheels anyway. Besides, for less than a grand net you can get a set of forged OEM 5 spokes and you've got the best of both.

I agree Ron, the 96 is the more collectable of the two and the differences are insignificant! Of couse I am partial to 96
