Just got back from my dealer. I returned an oil dipstick from my 96 GTS that didn't fit. Too short. I gave him the part number on the stick and he ordered and here it is the one for a 1997. Is it true i have a 1997 engine in my 1996 GTS? It was produced in October 1996 Vin # 684. If so any advantages or differences between the two?

If they looked the dipstick up in the '96 catalog you have to be carefull because they do not differentiate very well between the gen 1 and gen 2 engine.the dipstick was probally for a gen 1.So look closely when ordering parts.

Jamie, as Tom says, it seems like the dipsticks at your dealership got the wrong dipstick :). Your car is clearly a 96 with a 96 engine - it's S/N puts it in about the middle of the 96 Coupe build. We have 2 96 GTS Coupes (S/N's 527 and 574) with similar build dates. Most of the parts on ours are marked with dates within weeks prior to the car build date...
I hope this helps!!!
