ACR v.s GTS?

ACR's and GTS have the same engines, ACR has smooth tubes and K&N's already on it from the factory. Thus the reason for the extra 10 HP and torque. I think they went back to rating them the same for 2001???? could be wrong on that one.... either way the same power plant.

17" wheels on GTS's up to '98s and they changed to 18" in '99s First year ACR is '99, so all ACR and GTS's from '99 on on have the 18". '96 thru '98 thinner 5 point wheels, '99 thru '01 fatter 5 point wheels. All ACR's have BBS wheels.

ACR have the fog lights deleted. They also are missing the radio and A/C. (But most where added back on at an added expense.... makes sense to me?????? Pay to have something taken off for a little lighter race car.....then pay more to have it put back on?)

Anyway, the ACR's do have a some nice adjustable shocks that the GTS don't have. I think they also come stock with a 5 point harness belt. If you plan to put the car on the track then you need to investigate the difference and decide if the changes are worth the money and will they help. If you plan to use the car as more of a street driver, then it wouldn't be wise to pay $10,000 for some badging on the side of the car.

The Joke is ACR stands for A/C Removed, along with the radio and fog lights. The BBS wheels are part of the pkg including the suspension mods. The suspension is adjustable for many settings and also permits the car to be lowered an additional inch. K & N and smooth tubes are also correct. The comfort group adds the A/C and Radio back to the car. A must unless you live in Alaska or want a 100% racecar and nothing else. Search the board and you will find lots of posts from ACR & GTS owners related to your question. For the record I love my ACR. Vipers are GREAT!

The bodies of the cars are the same so the prices should be the same too.

I have a 99 GTS, but if I had the ACR, I'd spend the time necessary to corner balance the car using some corner scales and also to find the appropriate shock settings that match up with the stiffer springs. I forget the relative spring rates, but I think the ACR is roughly twice as stiff as the GTS. I also understand that the shocks come set on full soft from the factory. The ACR suspension settings would be fun to fumfer with to find a good combination of track and road performance.

Somehow, I wish that a brake upgrade was also part of the package.

My $.02, and worth every penny! If you're looking to buy, the ACR is great for added exclusiveness. And you have to like the wheels, because those BBS wheels alone are about 1/2 of the $10k option. If you're going to add the radio and AC back in, and don't care about the rarity of the ACR, get a GTS instead and upgrade as you see fit, i.e., suspension, tubes, filters, etc. You'll have enough money left over to do brakes as well!

The absolute ONLY difference on the hoods is the ACR Sticker. The hoods (all carbon fiber) retail for $16,999.00 from dealer. You can find them new under $12,000 and used should be around $8,000. Used price is depending on condition.... but what used items price isn't depending on condition?

American Club Racer...... If I was going to go racing, I would get a used GTS and sell the radio, A/C, wheels, and shocks. Add the lightest and best wheels /shocks I can find to the car. Go out and have fun running the car at its limits, not worrying about anything.

If I wanted to have a slightly rarer car and pay a little more for it, then ACR would be an option. But so would a 1998 GT2 (1 of 100), and a 1997 Blue with white stripes RT/10 (1 of 53).

the extra $10k for the ACR package for most purposes is not a good deal....

it's only worth it if you just have to have the "ACR" or plan on racing competitively, that way you can keep the ACR in the stock class.... if you take a GTS and add different suspension ect.... your not "stock" anymore...

BTW... those wheels do not make up half the price of the ACR package..... your upgrading from the stock GTS wheels... not getting an extra set...
