On my 97 gts the little red light that flashes to let you know the alarm is armed on the top of the dash does not work. Alarm works though. Can I take the light out of the dash easily and just get one like it at radio shack or is there something I need to know about this.

I wouldn't go to Radio Shack. I'ld go to a electronics specialty store like Western Radio, Gateway Electronics, etc. They have a better selection of LEDS. You're going to need the high intensity kind of LED.

I haven't checked out the one in my Viper, but most of these alarm LEDs just sit in a pop out type holder. Take a close look at yours or give your local Viper Tech a ring.

I seriously doubt the LED is bad. LED's have a useful life long beyond the car's. I'd suggest looking at the connections before you go to the trouble of replacing the LED. Also there are many different kinds of LEDs, all requiring different voltage reducing resistors. Do your research.....

The LED on the dash gets a 12 volt feed from the fuse block. The ground side of the LED is a driver circuit that comes from the EEM (electronic entry module) which is the box above your right leg under the dash. The LED can be tested with a DRB III (at the dealer). I think your problem is in the wiring from the EEM to the LED.
