Went to a Dodge dealer Sunday for an alignment on my GTS. Was told that (and I am assuming he was referring to the SRT or the 08 SRT but was not sure if GTS was include) an alignment would take 1-2 days and be very costly because it has static chamber and static toe-in. Also, a special Viper tech would have to come in to do the alignment. I said thank you and walked out. I know my GTS takes 2-2 1/2 hrs to do a alignment, not sure about the SRTs but 1-2 days is outrageous. Has anyone held this before? Does the SRT or 08 SRT need a special alignment.

This was the dodge dealer in tysons corner, VA off rt. 7 (4 or blocks from the mall).

Squad - I have an SRT-10 and it was aligned in a morning. There was probably some coffee breaks in there too. Tyson's is out to lunch. Go see Jeff Sherwin at Safford Dodge in Springfield. He didn't do mine but he is a good Viper tech and I'm sure he will do it right, and not rip you off in the process.

More then coffee breaks, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Question is, do the SRT or 08 SRT have this static chamber and static toe-in or is this just made up stuff by the dealer.

Explaining Viper things to you

Toe-in is real. Static toe-in is with the car stationary, as opposed to dynamic toe-in with the car in motion. I suppose all vehicles are set with static toe-in, as the alignment equipment and technician cannot do 100mph and hang on.

I Google'd static chamber and got a lot of physics junk. Only related to Vipers if you're an atom or molecule.

Squad - I just had all four of my wheels off doing my brakes. Didn't see anything like that, camber and toe in adjustment looked pretty straight forward to me but I'm no expert by any means. Recommend you call Jeff at Safford. He is the shop foreman there and he will tell you straight. There are also guys on this forum with service manuals who may look it up and chime in before you get around to making a call. Good luck.

Thanks Fast Too. I 'll give Jeff a call. I was just curious about the static stuff because I never heard of it before and especially 1-2 days for an alignment.
Also Fast Too-are the brakes pretty straight forward. I am looking to change my brake pads and rotors soon. I've never changed brakes on a Viper before, only my lexus. Not sure how much of a overall difference it is.

The Dodge Dealer could not align my Viper but another local place had the right alignment equipment and did it for $70.00.

I watched him do the alignment and it took a little over a hour.

Like Fast Too said it was pretty straight forward.

Call Rob at Ourisman Dodge in Chantilly. Their Viper tech is Dwayne and they do a great job and I've never felt ripped off. They have always gone beyond what I expected.

Very simple Squad. Check this link and read my posts about it there. http://forums.viperclub.org/srt10-srt10-coupe-discussions/609426-stainless-steel-brake-lines.html If the link doesn't work go to page 2 of this forum and look for the post titled Stainless Steel Brake Lines. Good luck. Join the VCA to by the way :)

Man, you guys getting your alignment for 7-80 bucks, where? Are these chain stores. The average price I've seen in VA is 2-250 for 2 hrs of work.

The Viper alignment you want addresses the dynamic tor patteren that can cause the Viper to wander the road under certain situations. It IS adjustable by shimming the rack and rear toe brackets. You can achieve a great toe pattern or just wing it and hope for the best as some shops do obviously. To do this the wheels come off and you use a toe pattern guage with the shocks off to measure and correct for the static and dynamic changes. A good alignment will take 3-4 hours if done correctly. Add 2+ for corner weighting if done with aftermarket shocks. FWIW.
