BRUCE- Honestly, the Vec-1 is the best choice at this point it seems. Mainly, this is due to the fact that with a "burned" PCM, you will have a set fuel map, and in order to get the most out of your engine, you need to tune it to use the highest octane fuel in your area. Now, what if you cant get that fuel at some point? putting in lower octane is a bad idea. However, with the Vec-1, and soon the Vec-2, the controller is adjustable "on the fly" via knobs, or a card. This way, you can de-tune and still drive in ****** CA that only has 91, while also driving the same car in (well, STILL ****** NY) which has 94...and get the most out of it in both places safely.

The VEC-2 sounds like the right ticket. However DC runs the motor lean with a lot of advance at low rpm. That I can understand for mileage and emissions. But why so fat and so little advance at higher rpm's including the no longer available off road performance pcm. They seem to be worried about burning up the motor. Are we missing something here? Are we going to cause a lot of problems with more advance and a leaner engine in the upper rpm ranges? What do they know that we don't? I too am curious about this. I have owned many LS1/LT1 powered F-bodies, and there are several well known programmers for those vehicles. I'm looking forward to the Vec2 for N/A applications, but I really want something that I can just drop in and go. I don't plan on leaving Las Vegas anytime soon, and the gas in SoCal is the same crappy 91 we have here, so that isn't much of a factor to me.
