Anybody else tired of seeing posts about Prices?

It seem like every time I check this board their is a new post about falling prices or how he got a viper for this or that. Especially freakin ebay posts. I could care less about ebay. Ebay is a joke. I really don't care what the prices are anymore. All cars depreciate big deal. I used to care but don't care any more. Enough on the prices already.

Why do people pay more for the blue and white 96 and 97 cars?

well James for some... price is a hot topic as some of us are buying and some are selling. That is what this place is for...exchange of information. If you do not like the topic..then stop reading it.

I personally think prices are at a level where they wont go down any further and with spring just a few months away...sellers might get what they are asking.

Interesting observation: The average quantity of Vipers for sale on Ebay over the last 6 months has been around 70 at any given point; a high of 83 at one point in November. Now it is at 35 cars, a level I haven't seen in months.

How do I know this crap? I was in the market for a Viper for about 6 months and watched Ebay meticulously.

I think that shows that less are selling their cars. When there are less sellers, prices stabilize. Maybe this is a good sign for those concerned about prices.

Of course, I really don't care about depreciation. If I did, I had no business buying a Viper in the first place and would have bought a Toyota. (Actually I did that too)

The 96 & 97 Blue & White GTS's have by far the best resale. I have been looking for months. They sell very quickly for top dollar. I guess it is the awesome color combo and limited production #s

I bought my car off E-bay and I can tell you this. I looked for 6 month's. I watched and waited and bid and on and on and on!!! Hardly any Vipers actually sold for those low prices. I couldn't figure out why until I started looking at the bidders. Most of them were car dealer's or speciallty dealers trying to steal them. It doesn't cost anything to bid so why not bid low. You may get one real cheap once and a while. The problem is that we look at the bids and think that that is what the market is on our cars and it isn't. It is a wholesale price. I run a car dealership and I also watch Manheim auctions to see what dealers are paying for Vipers at the auctions around the country. It's about the same as the low bids on E-bay. The average profit on a used Viper selling at a car dealership is probably $4000+. Add that to these prices and it doesn't look so bad. The other thing is the guy's selling your Gen 1's cheap. STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your killing the resale of the Viper period!!!!!!!! Take a 94 that sells for $33,000 with 19,000 miles. When people see that they now try to figure what they should pay for a 97 with a few less miles. We all know that most people don't have a clue what a car is worth, I see it everyday. If we give them a low number to start from everyone will take a beating, and I mean EVERYONE. If you want to stop the fall of the Viper!!!!

A) Let's talk about the Gen 1 as the true performance car that is is and not the entry level Viper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

B) Stop selling them so cheap because you have to have windows and an airbag!!!!!!!! (buy a vette)

I realize that the Gen 11 cars are different and maybe a little improved, depending on your preferences. I would like to own one some day.

I will bury mine in the back yard before I let some wantabe steal it from me because it doesn't have windows or 450 rated HP.

IF THIS WERE LIKE THE EXOTIC CARS SELLING THE EARLY 90s AND EVERY POST WAS THAT A VIPER JUST SOLD FOR A NEW RECORD PRICE AND YOUR CAR HAD JUST DOUBLED IN VALUE IN LESS THAN A YEAR. WOULD YOU STILL NOT CARE ABOUT PRICES??

Its not that I don't care about prices, I'm just tired of seeing the posts every other day about ebay and so forth. Of course I want our vipers to hold their value. Who wouldn't. Thats not what my post was about. Also VIPER1994 I agree with you 100%. I to am pissed when people sell cheap. All they do is hurt the resale value.

VIPER1994...prices are set by the market. The cars are worth what people will pay, period. Of course dealers want them cheap...it's impossible to sell a car for profit if you pay full retail. But then, who knows what "retail" means on a Viper?

For every low-30s car I hear about, there are ten more that sell for close to what the sellers want for their cars.

Like any car, people will dump Vipers cheap if they are financially stressed, or have a burning desire to trade it "right now" to get a newer or different car.

You know all this...you're a dealer (so am I).

Yeah I'm fond of Gen I cars also. I don't see a huge difference between Gen I and Gen II cars from the average road driving experience. What matters to me is a removeable top. I don't care if I have plastic windows, V Mania windows, or power freakin' windows...I just want the top to come off! I'll trade my 99 GTS for a nice RT/10 in a heartbeat. If it's a Gen I car, I just want a few decent mods to make up for the 50 HP difference. Otherwise, I'll be quite happy with two leaky-*** junk window RT/10s because I believe in keeping the tops where they belong - in the garage attic!

Yeah I've heard enough about Viper prices. I just wanted to get the last word before this thread dies (yeah, right) ;-)
