Hey Guys,
The rear left of my 2000 GTS is so low i can just barely fit my index finger between the tire and the wheel well. When I first got it there was at least 3 inches I think. The tire rubs all the time when I hit a bump. I do have the Koni and Ibach set up which I got with the car when I bought it (used). I guess they make one thats adjustable and one that isisnt? How do I know which one I have? Also, im guessing that maybe if I do have the adjustable set up, could it be slowly slipping and lowering it self? Does that make any sence? I have 16k miles on the car and don't really hit a lot of bumps so I dont think the shocks could be worn..... Any one in the Boston area that could maybe take a look at it? I would drive to you and deliver you lunch! I was thinking about waiting till the Tator BBQ but I don't know if I can wait that long I also don't want to hit any more bumps and kill my tire. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Sounds to me like a weakening leaf spring, but could be wrong. I've heard some people having issues with one of the shock setups on the Vipers as well. Not sure if you have that same setup or not, but I'm sure someone else on here can tell you for sure.

My Corvette ZR1 has the same problem with sagging on the drivers side, and it is the leaf spring that needs to be replaced. I'll go out on a limb and say that is your problem.

while you are under the rear of your viper looking for a LEAF SPRING, be sure to plug in an Electric Light Orchestra tape in the 8-track tape player for your musical enjoyment.. :D

Well then, I guess now is a good time to announce that I've assumed the rear of the Vipers have a leaf spring similar to the vettes LOL. I think sheepish is the right word to describe myself at the moment.

In my defense, I've only owned my Viper for 2-months now, and have not had the chance to learn everything about the car yet. I'll shut up now because I'm an idiot :)

LOL - ITS COOL! we were all new at one time. if the galleries were up, i would post a pic of the Independent Rear Suspension under your car.

i think you are close though. sounds like there is definately a broken spring, shock, mount, something going on.

city snake,
i love the lowered look, its bad a$$. Its just way to low where it could potentialy be dangerous. I mean how many times can the tire rub before it's sidewalls gets to weak? The fronts are fine and the read passenger side is decent (rarely rubs) but the rear driver side hits on every bump. Most of the time you can smell the burnt tire smell when driving with the window down......any suggestions on what the problem maybe?
Thanks
Martin

Is the shock stock (blue Koni) or after market? Without a picture, I would say you might have a blowout on the shock(oil leaking), or a broken spring. Can you get a picture?

If you want to take the car to a Viper Tech then your going to need a trailer or a flat bed.

You may be able to get a local suspension shop to fix the problem.

Did you buy the car from a dealer, or private sale?
