After my radar detection post,I spoke with techs about black boxes.Dial in the speed u want the cops to receive or just scramble.ofcourse its illegal.How bad can the fine be,its only money!Does anyone have one.Does it work?I here its microwave power.I like it 3 to 1 odds,smoke the cop,a burger,and your buddy in 12 seconds.CAN GEORGE FORMAN BEAT THAT!

I read articals on stuff like that in the past and I heard it was a bunch of garbage. Not my opinion, just what I read. I think some reputable radar company did the test. I would be interested in seeing the results. It would be funny doing 100mph and having the contraption say you were doing 45..confused the hell out of the cop?

I also heard that they are crap. In order for them to work they would need to be an active system, like the ones in our fighter jets. You can't have that in cars since it would cost like a few new Vipers and that it would fry a turkey if you held it infront of the dish.

They don't work, unless you get one of the active ones (HIGHLY illegal and you'd get in major trouble).

The radar detectors work on the doppler effect. The energy wave that hits your car is "compressed" if you're moving toward the target. They measure the amount of compression (or expansion if you're moving away) and they can tell your speed.

You really can't effectively compress the wave by a set amount and think you've got a jammer - it won't work. The only thing you can do is to bombard the gun with energy and confuse it into not getting any signal.

However, to have a transmitter that powerful, you'd be frying every old lady that crossed in front of you, and forget about having kids

I've owned 2 "blak box" units that most certainly DID work. Both were active units and the first one @1982 had only 25mph and 55mph presets. The next one @1985 completely jammed X band only. It was stolen and I never went through the tropuble of getting another. It cost @$800 and was very illegal. I actually had another company put stickers and product serial numbers to try to disguise it as an air freshner. It was stolen in NYC and some bubba is probably riding around wondering why the air isn't any fresher while pinning any Valentine in the area. I also got chased and harrassed by a pack of truckers on my way down to Miami once. Their "bird dogs" were howling all the way down 95 and they wern't happy. They knew what it was.

It saved me numerous times.

An experienced trooper can almost tell how fast you are going with his eyes. I will bet you that if you are running 100 and his radar read 55 he would still stop you.
