Hi folks. I just joined the board but have been following it for a few weeks. Thanks for info so far.
I plan to buy a GTS by next May and will have some questions now and then. Will try not to be a pest.
Question I have now, will value of car be lowered if paint stripes are added to one that does not have
them from factory?

It won't be lowered in the current market, it might bring the value up a bit as factory stripes were a $2500 option. If you are thinking real long term then of course they will not be listed on the original window sticker so if it ever gets as crazy as the "it must be original as it left the factory" corvete collecting hobby then it could hurt. My advice, try vinyl stripes for a couple hundred bucks to see if you really like them. Do a search and you will find terrific directions on where to buy and how to apply. My personal preference is go for the stripes, a GTS looks perfect with them. I would not hesitate with the painted ones either. Who cares about the collector hobby 20 years from now, make it look like YOU want it too.

To add to what Lee said, I think that adding factory spec stripes in factory colors will not adversely affect resale. The key is that the job needs to be professionally done and look great. Anything less than great, or some wild color, may hurt the resale value for someone looking for a near-original car. On the other hand, there are plenty of buyers out there who don't care about original colors or specs. Like Lee said, make it look like YOU want. After all, it's your automotive toy.

If you like the stripes, put em' on. Of course, have a pro do it.
If re-sale is a question, think about it this way. Some people like stripes and some don't.

Not having them will not cause any buyer to say,"not that one, is has no stripes". They can always add them.

Having them will cause some buyers to say, "Oh, I like that one but it has those silly stripes". He isn't going to buy the car and have them removed.

Do what you want and don't sweat the re-sale.

I have NEVER feared my stripes. They were put on the car about 3 months before I bought it and they are what made me say "WOOF!!!" It is all a matter of personal likes/dislikes, and I believe you have just as much of a chance finding a buyer who LOVES them as you do finding one who does not. The key is to live for now, do what you want....someone will ALWAYS love a RED GTS with BLACK stripes!! :)

Ron made a good point, regarding factory colors.....On a GTS that would be...
Red with silver stripes. All years with red?
Black with silver stripes. 99-2000
Sapphire blue with silver stripes 2001
Yellow with black stripes 2001-2002
Steel gray and graphite grey with silver stripes
Silver with blue stripes.
Blue with white stripes 96-97
White with blue stripes 100 built GT2
Red with white stripes...2002 final edition cars.
I may have missed some or been wrong with the years, but all this info. is listed on the front page of the site by year, check it out.
I also would not be afraid of doing black stripes on red (see Vipermads car above) or red stripes on black, or black on silver or graphite or steel, or white on yellow. They all look very stock even though they are not. I would stay away from anything stranger than listed above.

Just don't do blue stripes on black paint like that one Ebay car a while back.

PS- Lee, I must say your stripes look great!
