Best year\\low priced R\\T 10?

I was wondering for future reference which early year Viper
would be the best buy? I have seen some early model R|T 10's
in the low 30k range.Would there be anything to watch out for
on the first year Viper's? I would love to buy a Viper and I
alway's have my eye out for a great deal.
Thank's

OK, I'll bite. Per your statement below, why exactly are you looking to buy a Viper?

"I have to chime in on this.First to the person who told him
to buy a corvette-that is a great suggestion.You can buy a Z06
for around 50K and have the same performance as a GTS viper."

Sometimes you get what you pay for. I've sen many Gen 1 cars that were priced very aggressively, but were "Monets"...From a distance they looked great, but up close they were a mess!

Oh,
I see how this work's,since YOU guy's own Viper's you can
tell me what car to buy.I asked the question because I
wanted to know what problem area's to look for in Gen 1
R\T 10's.I obviously can't afford a GTS right now,but if I
found a good deal on a R\T 10 I might bite(no pun intended).
I have several friend's that own Viper's and love the car's,
and I have talked with them on this subject.I just wanted a
broader range of opinion's,and most of you on this board
seem to know alot about Viper's.And my comment's about Viper's
and corvette's have absoulutely NOTHING to do with what I
currently drive or want to drive in the future. So if anyone
want's to give me some info-fine,if not-fine also.

Re: Best year\\low priced R\\T 10?

95yellovett,

Of the early Gen I's, I would start out looking at 94's and up. 92 & 93 were more limited production and do have some year specific items (Coolant system, ext. antenna on rear lid deck, etc.) I bought a 94 RT and loved it. Had no problems with it and it is a much different vehicle than my 97 GTS!!

If you do a search, this topic has been covered several times and I am sure it is covered better than I can explain here. With that in mind, there are several things to look for when buying a GenI. Head gaskets failures seem to be common and only a matter of time before needing to be replaced (I had 40,000 miles on mine and had not had an issue, however!!) The dash seems to get scratched easily. This can be fixed via several different remedies!! Make sure the top and side curtains are in good shape. It will most likely leak, just look to see if it makes a good seal with the door/a-frame. Look to see if the car still has the original rubber (Michelin XGT's I think). These will need to be replaced!!! Look at the side sills to see if there is any corsion around the screws towards the front top (known problem).

I'm sure that there is more, but this is all I can think of off the top of my head. Please let me know if I can help....Kurt

Just busting your chops a little for your earlier 'Vette is better than Viper' comment! As long as you see the true light and worship at the door of the almighty Viper, that's cool, no matter what you're driving.

Besides, I have no actualy useful first hand knowledge to share about the Gen1 RT/10's, just what I have learned through this board. It's a well established fact that the Gen 2 yellow cars got the strongest engines, but I don't know if that holds true of the Gen 1's.

Take a look at the prices for 1996 RT/10's. This is a Gen1 and a half, so to speek. I have little experience with older ones, but have been told the the '96 engines are the stronger Gen1's (stock), and it has the Gen2 suspension. Check out the classified and the specs yourself.
Good luck,
Later,
