Is there going to be one? Ron has done it in the past but I don't know if he's going. Is anyone else setting up a caravan? If so, when and where are you meeting? Thanks!

Hey Matt,
From the Sterling area, Carlisle is a straight shot up Rt 15...2 hours flat according to Mapquest, and it's a beautiful drive most of the way. Nothing formal, but if anybody from points south would like to meet out in my neck of the woods and drive up, we can meet out this way. We're bringing both cars, so we're a caravan of our own anyway. :)

Folks, Lee posted great directions in the VCA Gatherings section, very detailed and even shows the back road in so you won't have to wait in line to get in:2tu:

Zoomie and I (possibly two more) are meeting up at our traditional
spot in Cockeysville MD and heading up I83 early saturday morning.
We'll probably make a stop somewhere in the York area to get gas,
but otherwise should reach the fairgrounds by 830-9am at the latest
(depending on traffic.)

If anyone would like to join us, the meeting spot is the ParkNRide on
Warren Road a few hundred feet off of I-83 north of Baltimore -
Exit 18. Unless things have changed, its a nice, quiet, roomy place to
gather up. We plan to leave by 630 at the lastest.

If you are sure you want to join us please email me, Zoomie , or post
here so we know to look out for you.

In case anybody missed the directions and instructions in the two other threads and the email.....

Saturday, July 7th , there will be a VCA Hospitality Tent at the All-Chrysler Nationals at Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle , PA. If you are not pre registered , you can still register at the gate. You want to register for the show field. Cost is $45, which includes weekend admission for 2 people. Please specify Viper Club of America for your club affiliation. There is a contest for the Club with the most cars in attendance. We narrowly lose each year, last year 3 Vipers did not mention a club affiliation and we finished 3rd. When you get to the fairgrounds, you want to enter at Gate 3. The show runs Fri-Sat-Sun, but Saturday is the big day, and the one when all the Vipers show.

Please read the following directions carefully, Ron Hickey passed these on last year and this BACK ROAD ROUTE REALLY WORKS!

FROM WASHINGTON DC there are 3 possible routes. Believe it or not, they all have the same driving time to Carlisle.

(1) I-70 to I-81 north to Carlisle (take Exit 44 and follow signs to Fairgrounds – see below), or
(2) US-15 north to York Springs, PA-74/34 into Carlisle from the south (45-mph speed limit on 74/34, traffic in town)
(3) US-15 north to the Pa Turnpike, go one exit west and get off on US-11 (west into town). This option gives you 2 major delays -- the Carlisle exit off the 'Pike backs up, and then you begin the slow parade through town.

I suggest you take the first route (I-81) and follow these directions:

Directions to Carlisle, via I-81 from South

Take Exit 44 (Route 465)
(Follow signs to Carlisle Fairgrounds)
RIGHT on US-11
LEFT on College St (Rte 74)
Stay on College St to G Street (follow signs)
RIGHT on G Street
LEFT on West Street (no Fairgrounds sign)
RIGHT on K Street
Straight across Rte 34 into Gate 3

If you must come in on the Turnpike and US-11, here's how to miss the traffic:

Back Road Shortcut

(Misses in-town traffic and brings you in from the north)

From Pa Turnpike Exit:
Take US-11 North/East (away from Carlisle)
Turn LEFT on N Middlesex Rd (traffic light at Arby's)
LEFT on Clemson Drive
RIGHT at T onto Wolf Bridge Road
(Speed limit 35 -- Watch out for speed trap!)
LEFT on W Middlesex Road
LEFT onto Rte 34
As you come into Carlisle (from the North) you will see Gate 3 on your LEFT. Depending on traffic and time of day, the police may not let you turn LEFT at Gate 3; they may have you turn RIGHT on K Street, at which point you'll just follow traffic and loop around.

From I-81 US-11 Exit:
Take US-11 South/West (toward Carlisle)
Turn RIGHT on N Middlesex Rd (traffic light at Arby's)
LEFT on Clemson Drive
RIGHT at T onto Wolf Bridge Road
(Speed limit 35 -- Watch out for speed trap!)
LEFT on W Middlesex Road
LEFT onto Rte 34
As you come into Carlisle (from the North) you will see Gate 3 on your LEFT. Depending on traffic and time of day, the police may not let you turn LEFT at Gate 3; they may have you turn RIGHT on K Street, at which point you'll just follow traffic and loop around.

Leaving the show, you can retrace the shortcut to miss the in-town traffic, or head through town to I-81:

Leaving Fairgrounds using Shortcut to US-11

Exit Fairgrounds via Gate 3
RIGHT on Route 34
Watch for Turkey Hill store at Y (Rte 34 bears right, stay on 34)
Look for yellow double turn-off road sign on right.
Turn RIGHT on W Middlesex Rd
RIGHT at stop sign onto Wolf Bridge Rd
LEFT onto Clemson Drive
RIGHT onto N Middlesex Rd
At US-11, RIGHT takes you to Pa Turnpike, LEFT goes to I-81

Leaving Fairgrounds South thru Town to I-81

Exit Fairgrounds via Gate 3
Straight across Rte 34 onto K Street
LEFT onto West Street
Follow West Street until it hits US-11 (W High Street)
RIGHT on W High Street
Exit town
LEFT on Route 465 (look for "To I-81" signs)
Take I-81 South

FROM BALTIMORE you'll come up I-83 to Harrisburg and catch the Pennsylvania Turnpike and take it west to Carlisle. So follow the "Back Roads Shortcut" directions from the Pa Turnpike exit.

See you all there!

Hopefully Woof will be with me an perhaps another. Where would you like to meet and when?

Let's meet at Ferrari of Washington on Rte 28. It's about 3 miles north of the Dulles Toll Road exit on 28. That's about 15 minutes from Leesburg where we can pick up Rt 15. We need to be at Carlisle at what 10 AM? Let's plan on leaving Ferrari NLT 7:45. That work for you?

I can do earlier if you want. We usually try to get to Carlisle about 8 AM, which would mean we need to leave FoW about 5:30. Either way is fine with me. Still not sure how many will be with me.

I've never done Carlisle before, so I'll defer to you about when we should get there. If we need to leave at 5:30 or 6:00, I'm cool with it.

Yeah I would recommend 5:30 or 6 AM. If we get there much later than 8 it bcomes a mad house. plus, we won't get as good a spots. I would recommen 5:30, but I can do 6 AM if 5:30 is too early. What works for you Fast Too?

5:30 is fine. The departure point (Ferrari of Washington) is actually east of Leesburg, but only by 7 or 8 miles.

Fast Too can be at FoW at 5:30. I'm not pre-registered so will have to register at Gate 3 when we get there. I also probably won't be able to stay all day but will make the most of the time that I can be there.

No prob. We will go through Gate 3 as we get goodie bags and it's usually the closest to our spot. We can leave together or as a group. Makes no difference to me. I have some friends nearby and usually go see them after. I don't plan to stay too late myself. Things really start winding down around 4 or 5. There are some events in the evening, but I've never stayed to see them.

Thanks to the Batboy and kcobean for the wonderful commorodity and feeling of welcome to a new VCA VA/MD/DL member that they extended. My wife and I had a great time at Carlisle today. I can only hope to emulate these two folks and their family and friends in welcoming new VCA members. Thanks again guys.:2tu:

r/Greg

Glad you came up with us Greg, you have a beautiful car! Also glad we could share some shade with you...today was H O T HOT! All 3 of us are burned to a crisp. It was nice to meet you and Flora and look forward to seeing you at future events. Are you going to attend the Fredericksburg cruise on Aug 4th? This was my first VCA event after I got my car last summer and it was a blast. Hope you can make it!

It was a pleasure meeting you and your wife Greg. Caravans are half the fun for car shows. Watching all the people as several beautiful rides pass them by is always fun. Anytme you want to go for a ride just give me a call. Hopefully you can make the F'burg cruise and we can do it again!
