CD Player hookup

I have a 94 Viper with the stock stereo headunit and I heard that they were made by Alpine? I have an extra Alpine 6 disk changer made in 2001 I took out of my 95 Volvo 850 before I sold it. Does anyone know if there is a way to hook up the cd changer to the stock stereo? I have been over my service manual and it was very little help. Has anyone done this? The Volvo also had an Alpine stock system and they hooked up perfectly, so I thought maybe there was a chance. Before I go tearing the headunit out, I thought I might ask if anyone has ever hooked up an aftermarket Apline (Model CHM-S620) disk changer to the stock headunit. The Alpine has a circular 8-prong wire jack just waiting for the right extension cord to get to the radio! Thanks!

To my knowledge, the OE radio has no aux inputs. You would need some. Or one of those gizmos that takes the output of a devise and sends it to a FM frequency so you can tune it with the built in receiver in the OE radio.

That's kinda the way the diagram in the service manual shows, but it is not really clear. If anyone knows anything else, let me know. Thanks.

I started tearing apart my 1993 this weekend to replace the head unit and there were/are 2 RCA inputs and a cable on the back labeled "CD CHANGER". Those were taped off and unused. I don't know if the head units changed between the years or not, but my tape deck had changer controls and the cables already hooked up.

Getting a 1994 Alpine stereo to "talk" to a 2001 Alpine changer may be a problem though. When I was getting my estimate at a local installer they were saying that the 1998 Alpine unit I picked up from a GTS wasn't going to work with my factory amps without some reworking. You may check with Alpine about when they changed their technology. AI-NET was something they were using for a while...

The Gen 2 Alpine CD has an 8 pin DIN cable from the amp to the CD. Not sure of the Gen 1.

Thanks! I will tear into it and see for sure. I am putting the center console support in anyway, so when I do that I can take the headunit out and look. You may want to try the center support too.

I contacted Dave about it. He said he's putting one in a 1994 and he's going to let me know if it works for the Gen. I. I'll let you know if I hear something before you do. Thanks!

I bought a Mopar 6 disc CD in 2000 (#82202700). It came with an install kit but my local dealer could not get it to work with the stock radio. I took it to Sound Advice and they had an adapter they sold me for $50 and did the install for $54.95 labor. CD works from the stock radio controls. Sorry, invoice for the adaptor does not have a part number. You can call Sound Advice at (904)573-0379.

Thanks guys. I will probably get to tearing into it Friday or at least this weekend. I would really like to get it out quicker so I can take it to where I bought the cd changer, but I am not sure if I can get to it sooner. I've been battling the flu for a while and it got me behind this weekend. If we have another snow day tomorrow (we are supposed to get 5-8 inches) and our college closes, I will tear into it then! On the other hand, if we get more snow that just pushes back when I can get it out to drive...

Yes, the CHM-S620 looks like an M-Bus changer so it should work. You need to track down an old Alpine 4913 adapter.

The adapter will allow you to use the factory controls in the head unit to run the changer just like stock. I would search ebay for a while they pop up from time to time. I will double check to see if I still have one. I had a couple but I think I just sold the last one a few months ago.
