Ignoring for a moment the obvious re-engineering issues - say we could change the wheel offsets in the Viper from almost flush mounted to deep dish wheels and everything in between - while keeping the same contact patch and same track width.

Questions:

1 - What changes would occur to the handling of the car by going from the stock offsets to a deep dish wheel (bringing the wheel bolt pattern much closer to the car) - all other things remaining the same? Both pros and cons

2 - I presume that suspension settings - dampening rates, spring rates and geometry would all change. Does anyone have an idea which direction the changes would likely be.

My guess is that the closer you bring the bolt pattern to the car (deeper dish) the stiffer will be the suspension, so it may need to have the spring rates slightly reduced to compensate.

Just wondering - because for very high outputs - going to a deep dish will shorten the half-shafts and thereby increase strength dramatically.

Conversely, deepening the dish in the front will shorten the leverage of the suspension arms but increase the angles they must operate at to maintain the same travel distances.

Therefore the effects may be totally different between front and back.

Please discuss :2tu:
