chromed gen II wheels, who\'s done it?

who's chromed their gen II 18'' wheels and what are the pro & cons?

I've heard the chrome will peel if you track your car from the wheel flexing.

I have heard accounts of chroming making the metal brittle. Okay for street, bad for track.

I did mine, even the inside of the wheels. They look great. Check out my pictures. It peeled a little on the inside of the wheels, so I had them re-done. Now they are great. I use Purners for the track.

Mine were +/-$300 per wheel, but that was because I wanted "bling" on the inside too. You should be able to get the outsides done for +/- $220 each.

Can someone who has the 18" post a pic? I want to get it done too but not sure how it will look. One of mine is getting a milky white color, which is not too good.

Just had mine striped and polished, They look great but I know it won’t last. Thinking of possibly chroming them but there the wheels I was going to use for the track.

Like to see pic of the inside chromed though.

Is there any company that can seal the wheel in the same fashion that the OEM supplier did?

Seems that anyone that has their wheels stripped and polished are forced to polish them forever.

I've tried turbax and wheels America. Wheels America can powered coat them but it's an orange peel finish and it burns when the wheels heat up.

Makes you wonder what powder coating the OEM vendor used.

If you decide that you want to keep it raw aluminum, you might be interested in this product.

I had my gen II 17" chromed and I really like them a lot. They are very easy to keep clean. I paid 1300.00 for a set of 4 with some lip rash repaired.

Re: chromed gen II wheels, who\'s done it?

I sent a used set of '97 wheels to Calif. Chrome Wheel and they turned out super nice! You can see before and after pictures in my gallery (including the packaging that CCW uses to ship back to the customer).

Price was indeed $150 per wheel, including center. Shipping out and back is extra. I'm in North Carolina and I spent about $30 per wheel on shipping each way (UPS, including extra for insurance). You'll be looking at about a month to get out and back with shipping time. Mine shipped from here around Thanksgiving '04 and got back first few days of January this year (a little over a month turnaround).

I talked to John at CCW and he handled the deal well.

Chrome made a HUGE difference in the looks of the car.

Re: chromed gen II wheels, who\'s done it?

Here's a couple of shots of one of my chromed '97 wheels next to one of the car's stock '96 wheels. The wheel was not altered physically during the polishing and plating (even the centers). The chrome finish is mirror slick.

Hope these help.

Nice, now I have to do this... This site is killing me... :) However, this may have to wait until next fall bc I do not want the car sitting for a month and I want spring now. :)

Hey...It's a LOT cheaper than a set of HRE's at $5G's +!

BTW- AAA Rims will do a swap deal if anyone is interested.
