I have a larger radiator coming in pretty soon for my Viper.

In the mean time I wanted to do a test on the cooling. So I help a friend out with a stock radiator that has some engine mods that make him run hot. We tapped into a + lead into the fan and let the car idle plus drove it hard. The car never got above 195 mark where it would usually run anywhere from 200-225...but with the fan running all the time, it stay cool in traffic and under hard driving.

I think I will be getting dual spal fans since they will pull more cfm at lower amps than the stock ones when I get my radiator in. I will have a custome shroud made for it. I will post results when it comes in.

Ron Davis with internal oil cooler. Not sure what the demension are, but I got a killer deal from JonB that no one was able to touch.

It's the largest one that he makes for the viper. I'm hoping to see some good results out of it with 2 12" Spal Fans which will be about 3300CFM with a total amp draw of less than 30. I am going to install a 160 themostate with a separate relay and adjustable temp control module I got for less than $20.00. I will hook it to two 30 amp relays to kick the fans on.

Too bad there isn't an easy way to make the fans come on when you are going under 30mph.

Joe, when I turn on my AC, my fan turns on and pretty much stays on.
So, if it's warm anyway, there's a solution, right?

But your AC adds heat to the radiator. It would be better to just have the fan.

The best way would be to program the fan to come on at 160. That would do the job.

Good point. Isn't there a computer tool that you can go in with and set all these things? I know the Vettes have an aftermarket program that plugs into the OBDII port, or whatever it's called, and let's you monkey with virtually everything the car does - shift points on auto trans, how hard it shifts, air/fuel, fans, etc.

Running the AC will put more heat into the radiator. You can have your computer reprogramed. I know Doug Levin can reprogram the computer to make the fan come on sooner without the AC on.

Cheers,
Chuck

And I thought OBDII was in the first Star Wars movie.

:D Yep, that too. Gotta say though, I realize (now) the thing about the heat but the results have been nothing short of fantastic since I re-charged my R-134a AC. Now it has enough in there to turn the compressor on and fan cuts on. Whereas I used to have the temp going up to around 210 (before the fan would cut in) now even idling in 88 degree city heat, the temp stays around 190-195. And, of course, you wouldn't want to run a road course with AC on, but it really has made all the diff. here.

I think West Coast Viper also offer's this service.. I never knew that the factory fans turned off at 30 MPH..I thought they turned off at 70 MPH

Sorry, the reference is to charging a low/depleted AC system with new R-134a; when it's real low, the computer apparently doesn't get a code that it's running, even when turned on by the driver. As soon as I charged mine up, my fan started cutting on as it is supposed to.
Now, my car runs normal when AC is on - fans run most all the time.
