A while back there was a thread around buying a roll of 3M film and doing your own Stongard job. Did anyone actually try this? If so, what was your experience? Was it difficult to cut a pattern, get straight edges, apply it to the car, etc.?

I just had my front bumper and hood touched up and repainted, so for the first time in years my front end is Perfect. I drove home oh-so-carefully to avoid rock chips or scrapes, and in about a month I'll take it back out of the garage and look to protect it with something like Stongard. However, the local Stongard shop wants something like $850 to do the car, and I'm not even sure if that includes the sills. (BTW, has anyone covered their sills? If so, how does the film handle the heat?) Anyway, if this is the sort of thing where having professionals do it is worth the money, then I'll spend the money. However, if I can spend $100 rather than $800, then I'd prefer to do that.
