Had an outfit out today , Garagetek ,to give a price for installing garage flooring--the kind that snaps togteher with borders. My garage is a little over 2 car size and installed estimate was $2800. Sound right?

I would assume your garage is approximately 600 or 700 square feet. At that price you are paying 4.00 to 4.80 per foot. A little heavy if you ask me.
My wife had that other company give us a quote for slatwall, cabinets and flooring. Their price was so high we realized there is room for some friendly competition. Our prices for slatwall and cabinets are much cheaper and I can get you flooring for 2.45 per foot. Our flooring is made by Sportcourt. It's called Daytona and has a tread pattern. Available in every color. I have it in my garage and it has held up to two restores and constant abuse.
Shoot me a pm if you would like to talk or visit my website at www.zengarageinc.com

550 feet will take you 1.5 hrs. they are usually shipped in a flat box with 8 pieces already snapped together. My wife removed the daytona from her side of the garage and installed Tylon which is from Sportcourt in place of the Daytona. She did the removal and install in under an hour.

Not to start anything with Zen, but an hour and a half sounds a little optimistic on snap-together flooring. I installed RaceDeck in my 576 sq ft garage and it took me about 8-10 hours. Maybe someone younger and more experienced could shave a few hours off the task. I had to trim all the side squares using a table saw because I wanted a wall-to-wall fit. There is no way you can do that in an hour and a half. If you contact RaceDeck directly and mention that you're a VCA member, you ought to be able to get flooring for somewhere between $2.75-3.00 per sq ft.

I concur.... I got the 18" X 18" from Race Deck, yellow and alloy were the colors (My viper is yellow) they were a pleasure to work with, Shauna was the person that helped me. I got the VCA discount, and a little more. I have an extra large two-car garage, it took me 6-7 hours to complete. The cutting takes the most time, its perfect though, and its an easy install.
I would put down a barrier (tar paper) over the concrete to eliminate the hollow sound when walking on it. Yes, I would do it again.

I also went with the Gladiator garage system, cabinets, shelving, etc. on all walls (VCA discount applies as well) and everyone who looks at my garage says its the nicest garage they have ever seen, of course it does have a Viper in it as well, which helps. I did this as well with my 16-year old kid. I only wish I had a six car garage.

For the Race Deck floors and the Gladiator system, a company estimated my job at @ $10K for everything, and I did it for $3K less, and still have $2K in tools left over from the job to boot.

Either way, good luck with the garage.

I recently put down 630 sq.ft. of RaceDeck using alloy and graphite, a border and checkerboard center field. Took my son and I about 8 hours, mostly getting the edges done right (expansion gap) and dealing with the border and 6 irregular shapes around my garage doors. Mine is truly a wall to wall installation. We used a thin green foam underlayment from Home Depot that's used under snap-together fake wood flooring to prevent the clacking. Works great. I guess that a real rectangular similar size garage would take about 1/2 the time. Also, I put the RaceDeck over an expensive aircraft hanger epoxy that failed. Would never use epoxy again. Finally, the S. Calif. RaceDeck dealer couldn't have been more helpful. 1st class operation.

Or go with a nice porcelain Thru body Tile. It will run 2-3.00 a SqFt. Dark grout and your set. It will not wear but maybe a little slippery

The problem I have is keeping the Race Deck clean- I have white/black checkerboard. The white is a B*tch to keep clean. We now use Simple Green and a pressure washer to clean. Supposedly they sell a cleaner for it but I have not got any yet to try. We have a four car gaage and it took about 9 hours to install. Looks great when clean though.

The white tile is the worst to have in a garage as for it shows everything. Installation is a snap, literally. If you have no cutting your floor should be complete in less than 2 hours. We dont do alot of installs of tile but we alot 1/2 hour per bay.

I painted my shop floor with Home Depot 1 part epoxy floor paint which comes in many different colors. It looks great. Price $200.00. Save your money for viper mods.
