Well got the Viper on the Dyno and did 5 pulls to dial in the VEC1, not particularly impressive gains but every little bit helps! One nice thing to learn was that it makes just as much power at the richer setting than the leaner one, so I can run safer without losing power.
My Viper is a 94 RT/10, bone stock except for smooth hoses, K&N's, new cheapy aftermarket cats (just to get it pass emmissions when I bought it last month)and mufflers replaced with resonators.
The Dyno is a brand new DynoJet 224x, installed this spring at a local speed shop.
These runs were all done back to back, only a couple minutes shutdown between runs. It was 10am this morning, about 75 degrees, average humidity. Car ran about the same temp throughout all pulls.
Run #1 - VEC1 at 0/0 - 365.61hp, 438.89tq
Run #2 - VEC1 at +8/-12 - 372.15hp, 446.97tq
Run #3 - VEC1 at +8/-16 - 372.29hp, 446.37tq
Run #4 - VEC1 at +8/-8 - 369.24hp, 442.87tq
Run #4 - VEC1 at +8/-20 - 372.63hp, 433.97tq
Didn't change the low side on the VEC1, not sure if it makes any difference at
WOT.
While street testing the VEC1, with it at -20 on the high side, I was still lighting up the 1st blue led solid, so it appeared still to be rich, but on the dyno with the a/f probe installed, it was showing close to too lean, but I guess the new cats may have something to do with that.
So so much for the Gen 1's responding well to the VEC1, looks like I only gained 7hp and 8tq at the wheel...but every little bit helps I guess!
Any idea what sort of gains can be had simply by installing high flow cats? 3" exhaust? I am looking for a set of 98+ stock headers (anyone have some? pm me!) and when I find them will open up the exhaust with 3" pipe, high flow cats, and some nice magnaflow straight through mufflers. I think there is alot of HP being lost in the stock 2.5" exhaust, anyone have any before/after numbers?
